So we sorted the misfire with valve springs and went for a 9.5k rev limit but we believe we went out of the effiency range of the cams so the car used a lot of fuel. So after upgrading to a aeromotive fuel pump I then decided to run a smaller pulley so got 21psi at 9100rpm and the car made 488bhp. I thought I would be happy but.........as I find half the fun in making stuff and playing with the car I have sold the supercharger and going turbo. Either a gt30 or gt35 variant. Looking at other people's power plots the gtx3076r .82a/r starts restricting above 8k so need to make a educated guess as to which one will be ideal, I don't want huge lag just as long as the turbo has 20psi by 5k which even a gt35 should do. I will be making the manifold to suit the turbo and a tial Vband turbine housing as it looks much nicer. So hopefully in a couple of months the car will be up and running. Just got to be careful how much boost I run as at around 2 bar the head will lift with Oem head bolts.

Should also be receiving a vented bonnet tomorrow as I melted a alternator as the engine bay temps got pretty toasty on a hot day. This will also be handy with keeping it all cool with the turbo.
Good luck with it. Must be pretty rubbish those OEM head bolts not to take more than 2 bar lol.

Right I've fitted the bonnet. Need to get it painted eventually as not a fan of bare carbon

I have done some testing to see if the bonnet makes a difference to coolant temps whilst driving and the answer is no. I have read a few times that a vented bonnet only works if the bottom of the car is enclosed, so I put the full undertray back on and low and behold the coolant temps have dropped by up to 5c cruising at 70, it's a bit less if you are following a car. So the conclusion is if you put a vented bonnet on alone only expect it to make a difference to engine bay temps at low speeds or in traffic.

The other plus side about the undertray is the car is a lot more stable at higher speeds

Great minds think alike. I hadn't had a notification about you saying to update but I decided I best update it.

So the turbo install is all done. Turbo is the way forward much quicker in the midrange. I'll let the pictures do the talking. Oh we had to fit a new gearbox yesterday as the old decided it had enough.

Had flames coming out of that vband flange so welded it up. It had done it's job whilst getting the position I wanted

Image

Had the car cut out on the dyno, turned out to be the fuel tank breather not working so brought another one from think automotive.

Image

Had the spoiler and bonnet painted to match the car

New gearbox to replace the broken one

Turbo brace I made for my mates car, see if it works. It will take some load, I have made another for myself.

Picture of my full undertray I made.

So in a nut shell since I last posted the car has had new wheels, turbo setup, new gearbox and little bit and pieces. I have brought a golf r32 thottle body so I can change over to drive by wire as it will make it a nicer drive and no more idle control valve. Just got to buy a pedal from a vw as well.

Car made 455bhp on Gary's dyno at 16-17psi. Next is more boost just to get it over 500bhp but will keep the boost what it is in 1st and second as they won't like it, neither will the tyres lol

Driving to Italy with the car in May, going to snetterton on the 9th of March and maybe going to the nurburgring end of June. So the car has lots to do.

That diffuser / flat floor is awesome.

Quick question on a serious note but how does it cope with the heat build up and cooling for the gearbox and diff. Always wondered about this and it's why our undertray stops at the sump. It used to go back to the front dif.

It's hard to see but there is a large scoop at the front for the engine sump and gearbox. Obviously the temps will be warmer compared to not having one but I do have a temp sensor in the gearbox and the highest I've seen was late 80's and that was on the dyno, not much moving air. Diff also has a vent feeding it. I'll see what it does on track.
