Paul,
Did the speakers already thinking that was the problem, but as you already know, it's the head unt it thats the prolem.
Any ideas on how to work around the joystick thing, or can the wiring be left in situ for that?
Would be interested in the Ford head unit and amp.....
(I'm ok with newer stereo's but I think this thing might have valves :) )
(Note: For the younger BP members, back in the days of black and white TV and no adverts, radios came with valves)

I'm fairly sure that you can bypass the joy stick and leave the wiring in place. I'll have to speak to Wayne as he's the boom box man of the team:D. I'm sure Bart could sort it but his first tool of choice is always a hammer:smash:. We'll get on it this weekend and i'll try and find the amp as well. Failing that i've got a couple of other stereo's lying around that you could install and still leave tha standard wiring in place.

I think it's 2" pipe with 2.5" internal muffler.
The outside measurement is slightly larger obviously......

rob if you follow the wires from the back of the joy stick for your speaker fade then you should have a connector block that goes then goes to your speakers.

if you have the 2007 stereo model stereo they speaker wires lead from stereo to your joy stick.

there are 2 ways to do this for your speakers
1. connect speaker wires to your joy stick that way having independent fade.
2. find the connector block and plug wires into there bypassing the joy stick.

left door speaker yellow n black and white n black wire
left rear speaker yellow n brown and white n brown wire
right door speaker yellow n brown and white n brown wire (this might be purple instead of brown)
right rear speaker yellow n red and white and red

if need and other infor i have the original ford stereo books here.

What are bloody nightmare :beatdeadhorse5:
First up, the new head has clearly been skimmed even though the seller said it standard.
This meant when I set it up on my block, when turned by hand, the valves met the piston faces, so I've either got to figure out what gaskets I need for the head, sort the pistons out, or sell the skimmed block.

On this note, would the 134 cam work in a normal head with normal valves?
(If not, there's another thing to sell)

So, one head off, one on, that one off then the original one back on again (bloody fuming by this time now)

To make matters worse, I then tried the manifold up, and the power steering I fitted a wee while ago, the manifold strikes the support bar, what a bastard!!

So for nearly 12 hours work, all I managed was a bloody service!
The only ray of light was that it was massively out of tune, and it now goes much better, but that's little consolation.

(Dave Judd needs knighting as a result of todays efforts, his patience is Saintly, and although we did nt actually achieve half of what we wanted, without him, I would have pushed it outside and set fire to it.)

What a shitter:mad:. I'll try and find the haynes manual tomorrow for a read on the bore and stroke of the pinto as ford are cheap and so many parts are interchangeable that might solve your problem.
We fitted 2.9 pistons in herbie even though everyone in the know said they wouldn't fit, to lower compression. We might still have a set of cossie pistons just need to find out if they'll fit and give clearance to thne values.

Too whacked now 1/2 bottle of wine done.
