95RON fuel on a JDM turbo engine?

Post by gazmk2 »

Hi guys!

Just for your reference my car is a 1991 toyota soarer with the 2.5L twin turbo 1jz-gte engine with only a de-cat and free flowing air filter for mods, standard boost is around 9psi and mine is boosting at 11psi. there are no boost controllers or anything.

I have always made the assumption that all grey imports need to be run on our highest octane fuel due to the cars local market fuel being high octane, the problem is that super unleaded at it's cheapest (tesco) round my way is

Simple answer= Buy 98ron or better

Longer answer= Read below :)

Performance may be affected but safety will be a bigger factor. If you use more boost you will enhance the chance of going boom!! In terms of running costs, you really have to ask yourself whether

As Stuart has said is it really worth risking the bill for a rebuild to save a few quid.
You could use 95ron and then use octane booster but it will probably work out just as expensive or more expensive than using Tesco 99 or V Power.
