Yep they really do Trev, thats why i'm now going to just go all out on the trackday. we'll see just how strong toyota's boxes really are

Why destroy the box instead of repairing it?
Bearings can make a lot of noise before failing so there may be little or no damage atm. Cheap option is surely to strip the box and replace the bearings. You may even find it's not a special and can be had for a few quid from the local bearing factor.
You could drain the oil first, for an estimate of any damage.
