Why destroy the box instead of repairing it?

Bearings can make a lot of noise before failing so there may be little or no damage atm. Cheap option is surely to strip the box and replace the bearings. You may even find it's not a special and can be had for a few quid from the local bearing factor.

You could drain the oil first, for an estimate of any damage.
Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!

If you need to use the ramps at the unit one night, let me know.

I can soon roll the carcass of Betty out of the way and you can check what you need to, as Gerry say. I even have 1.5 litres of decent gearbox oil if you need some (Unused after buying it from Eduardo)
