Sierra Steering wheel/column

Post by Gerry H »

This is right up Bart's or Pablo's street as they're the resident Sierra experts :D

OK, so the Dax uses Sierra bits for the steering and as it's been plagued with electrical gremlins, I decided to remove the dash and do some investigation. Now I've come to re-fit the steering column, I have a few bits left over  (not really just wanted to add some effect :D

Anyway, it's the old style column with square hazard switch and horn push on the end of the indicator stalk and hexagonal section for the steering wheel .

The bit I'm confused about is a spring collar/washer/castelaterd top hat thing that I thought sat inside the plastic, indicator cancel, bush but if I fit it to the bush and try to push it onto the column, it feels as though it'll open up too much and split the plastic bush.

Any ideas of which order these two bits go? It's obvious how the plastic bush fits but not where the spring washery bit goes.

it sounds like you have a MK1 steering coloum and if the stalks brake there a nightmare to get replaced cuz of the cozzy tax that goes on them.

do you have a picture of the bits left over cuz im better at looking at parts than what there called if you know what i mean.

as for the top hat part you should see on the steering wheel that the notch that sticks out should line up with it to self cancil the indicators

Certainly does help Alan :thumb:

Thank you. :)

And, by the look of it, they do go as I thought but it's all a very tight fit.

Is that a Haynes manual? If so, can you tell me which model it covers as there's loads of Sierra bits on this car.

i have ford sierra 4 cylinder 1982-1993
also ford sierra V6 6 cylinder 1983-1992

they cover all models made apart from the cozzy but most parts the same anyway

so anything you need should be able to help mate
