Snetterton - great day but could of been oh so worse!!!

Post by boucherie »

First of all a huge thanks to Stu, Dunc, Snettertons workforce and anyone else involved in arranging the track evening. There was a great turnout and lots of stunning motors which put mine to shame!!

I had a brilliant time, alot more confidence in the car compared to last year but it could have been oh so different!! On the way up i needed some fuel so stopped at Shell in Diss and surprise surprise no V-power so chucked

Luck escape mate. Nearly lost a front wheel on my first track day. Now check the wheel nuts before and during an event religiously now.
Wheel nuts should be checked so many miles after being torqued up in my opinion any way ( the torque wrench used at a tyre place probably hasn't been calibrated since new either).

Glad you had a great night Ian. Must have been something about fuel as I ran out too yesterday!

yeh its certainly a lesson learnt, if i hadnt of seen the bloke torque up the wheels then i would have sworn they hadnt done it!!
guess that all the loading on the tyres doesnt help when your turning to keep corner speed up didnt help matters!!

yeh i read your report stu and knew exactly how you felt thats for sure!! i think it was just one of those days where if it could go wrong for people then it did!! i think dave (rayman_gtir) ended up having a problem with his clutch bearing which put pay to his track induction which was a shame as i was looking forward to some formation flying!!!

I've always been told that too, I tend to check with a torque wrench at approx 25, 50 and 100 miles after the nuts have been undone for any reason.

Cheers,
Alex

Good write up chap

In ref to your loose wheel nuts:

dirty threads could have been your issue, if a garage have not checked the threads the nuts wouldn't have been torqued properly and would work loose

Great write up - the petrol was also quite a problem for me .. I was surprised to use over half a tank in 20 laps ... 20 x 1.9miles = 38 miles ... I guess I was getting 4 - 7 MPG then ... :D
