Just like to say I had a good day yesterday, was nice to meet up with everyone again and get out there and compete again.

Good to see Gerry and Stu down to watch.

My didn't end well tho, after the weird slight drop in oil pressure 2 weeks ago I checked everything, oil change and nothing un suspected arose, checked my oil pressure gauge against a mechanical gaunge, ,they tied up. So decide to run yesterday, oil pressure was stable all day, then just as I was lining up for my last run, I blipped the revs to move up the que and heard a slight rattle from the engine, so went back to the pits and had a check, didn't sound to good so putting 2 and 2 together I suspected a main bearing was on its way out. So called the AA and waited for them to arrive. Bloke who turned up was a good bloke, had an Evo and has Sprinted it and was a memer of GreenBelt MC, he also recked it was the bottom end

So eventually got home at 8pm on the back of a flatbed :(

Will be making a few calls today to see what sort of timescale i can get eh car running in again, but TBH I am at a crossroads, if I hadn't put so much time and effort into the car the I would have no hesistation of sacking it off, chucking in a 2ndhand short motor and flogging it, but part of me wants to make it right as whern the car is running its an awesome car to drive.

Most important thing to work out is why it has failed, the mapping is safe, I haven't ever neglected the car on oil changes etc, always pre-prime the engine before start-up etc etc. Its not what you expect on a Steel engine thats only done 7.5k. My thoughts are it has been starved of oil when I done my driver training and spun at high speed :?: :?:

I just can't believe how unreliable these Imprezas are, its not like the 7.5k miles has been all at 110%, I wopuld say 65% is on motorways a cruising speed going places.

I am proper fecked off, looking down a decent 4 figure bill AGAIN just to get the car back to where it was last week :!:

Anyone got a nice Evo for sale :?:

Good to see you yesterday Logan but happier circumstances would have been better. A big relief to hear you're going to stick with it and this time, while the engin's down, have the sump baffled. The internals may be steel but the poor old bearings aren't. :)

Group buy on engine builds anyone? :o

That was a stroke of luck with the AA guy, could have been a PITA otherwise.

Rock and hard place springs to mind Gerry, have to fix the car whatever as its worth bugger all as it is.

Still not sure what I will do, whether I keep it or not. I can't can't quite get my head round it, lots of people run normal sumps, so how come I get the bad luck, if thats what the issue is anyway, will fin dout when it comes apart.

In the meantime, do i buy an old WRX or Evo to keep scoring points int eh rounds event ho I won't be competitive :?:

Lots of people run normal sumps but do they drive as hard as you? :D

Read 22B and dry sumps are being discussed for good reason.

Seeing your driving yesterday mate, you could borrow my Explorer and be competitive :)

I quite understand your questions regarding sumps but the only way to know is to crack the thing open. It's easy to say that 'other people' get away with it, but your an F1 engineer who knows the merits of over engineering reliability above all else. You can't win sweet FA if you don't finish. I think you have been struck by bad luck, nothing more. You have an awesome car in the Type R and I am sure if you get over this hiccup, you'll be back and mixing it up with the guys at the top of the ladder. The financials of what you do in the interrim has to be your decision. I would bite the bullet, get it fixed as soon as you can and try it once more. If it restores your confidence great......if not bomb it out and decide whether you want to keep sprinting. If you do, you'll face all of these same decisions again unless you buy a sump baffled Evo, M3 etc etc

Try and get back in the saddle quickly mate. Don't let the rot set in like I have.

thanks chaps for the encouragement, good to hear otehr peoples opinions and not just p1ssed off thoughts :!:

Yes Gerry, have been reading that on 22b. Spose I just had the classic thing of thinking I would be okay :!: Which is wrong.

Stu, thanks mate, I don't think i am that special, plenty of others that can drive better then me.

When the problem has been sourced you can have no doubt that I will go for the belt and braces approach!

Just not loving the fact that i am probably facing a rather large bill, and missiing the up-coming Sprints.

As you say tho, its probably worth 1 more shot, spent too much of everything to just give up on it I suppose. Will call a few people today to find out timescales costs etc...

Wish I had taken up tiddlywinks tho, darn sight cheaper! I blame my parents, if they hadn't both rallied when I was younger I would probably be a lot richer :!:
