Got some 4 point harnesses arriving next week - sabelt clubman ones - are these legal for road use?
Just wondering whether I have to travel to events with normal belts in and then clip belts in on site.
ps - These are not going to be used all the time as they are a bit of a pain in the backside.
Also, any views of the safety of these when the car hasnt got a roll cage?
Race Harnesses
They are legal as long as you use the original mounting points where the rear seat belts bolt onto the chassis of the car. I mounted the lap straps on mine to where the front seat bolts onto the car and it was fine. If you are running a rear strut brace and loop the rear straps over the brace then this becomes illegal. Hope this helps.
I have used eyebolts on my drivers side and that way I can keep the seatbelts as well. You need to make usre your have the typical seat belt release mechanism. As far as I know aircraft style release buckles are illegal as they will not pass an MOT.
Your seats will be prefectly safe with these and the feeling of being held securely is superb when pressing on. Just make sure you secure the harnesses to the rear at the most shallow angle possible (ie horizontal), lower than 45 degrees will cause problems but your seatbelt mounting points will be fine
I would suggest some decent harness pads for added comfort.
