best cure for sore lips is to kiss a horse's arse.

Doesn't stop the soreness but it sure stops you licking them. :D
Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!

Hmm, I thought that until I wrote-off a 300 quid Arai early on in my bike racing career. Spent the next few years racing in a 100 quid HJC (certified to the same standard, ACU Gold) and had a couple of scrapes on that too.

Use a helmet you're comfortable with and complies with whatever standard is required. The main reason that some helmets retail for 500+ is punters buying the 'best' they can afford.

Having said that, do avoid the VERY cheap Chinese-made unknown names currently on the market]just[/i] pass the tests, with scary stuff like strengthened areas that are specific to the exact test procedure...

I still wear an expensive Arai for road riding, but if it ever gets accident-tested then that's likely to be a more stringent test than anything a car accident could throw at it.

Good advice here - most importantly is a helmet you feel comfortable in. I like open face in a car 'cos it's easier to talk to passengers and stewards :)

Also, it's good to be comfortable in what you're wearing. A first track day is stressful enough without uncomfortable shoes to worry about. So stick to what you're used to when driving on the road :)

Cheers,
Alex

Also - if you wear glasses - you're better off with an open face - but also glasses with straight arms - as i've found :)
