No. he is getting 24 bangs per revolution due to split timing. I will fix the link. Its the equivilent of a 12 cylinder engine.

in my limited experience, i had always thought 2-stroke engines made the best power, but thats just been blown out of the water by these wankel rotaries!

I think the rotary lives on in steam engines now. There is a company that make a rotary go kart engine ( AR50 )
I think mazda mostly own the rights to the rotary engine. The problem with rotaries is the efficency due to the irregular shaped combustion chamber. This leads to the engine requiring more fuel ( BSFC 0.62 ) also creating lots of hydrocarbons due to this and needing oil injection to lube the rotor housings.
