We've never thought about a gearbox temp gauge, or at least I haven't. We have talked about, on and off for the last couple of years, fitting a gearbox oil cooler set up. Warren Kelly who did Time Attack in his Escort Cosworth going from Club to Cub Pro kept breaking gearboxes. He eventually sorted it by fitting a gearbox oil cooler.

When we broke the first box we found that one of the engine mounts had melted and we think this may have contributed to the gearbox failing. This time round we found that the propshaft bolts were loose and we also realised that we were still running the original standard gearbox mount, unlike the uprated engine mounts. A new one has now been bought to be fitted when the box is changed.

To be honest the only real solution would be to get a big toothed gearkit and then fit a gearbox oil cooler. Buit they are not cheep.

well after being annoyed at the start of the week finding out the gearbox parts had not been delivered to the gearbox company
until Tuesday I asked them if they could get it built before this weekend as explained our situation to them.
thankfully they got it built quicktime and on Thursday went and picked it up.

today was an early start as me and my brother thought it would take most the day to get the old box out, swap over parts from old to new
and refit all the other bits that had to be taken off the car.

after 3 half hours the job was done, it went smoothly with no issues so fingers crossed our luck might be turning.

going to take the car out tomorrow and put some miles on the new box.

with the old box we took the reverse sensor off and we coud see third gear, needless to say its missing most of its teeth

So far so good, just been out to put a few miles on the rebuilt gearbox. The new clutch feels a lot lighter than the old one did. The gearbox doesn't whine like the last one did and feels even tighter. So that's it all done and ready to go for next weekend and round 5 of Time Attack at Croft. A new circuit to use.

it was painful to sit in the car waiting for it to create boost and even when it started to create it boost had to brake for the corner.

Must have been mega frustrating having to go 2nd to 4th!!!

it was frustrating indeed and I was in barest for the team with the performance we gave.
just felt sorry for pez and his little lad as it was a very stressful day.

going from 2nd to 4th my best lap was a 1m52sec
using 3rd gear for 2 acceleration zones 1m46sec
if the gearbox wasn't damaged car would of done a sub 1m40 as all but 2 corners required 3rd gear.

Mate, you've got to put it into perspective.

If Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel etc lost 3rd gear during the formation lap, their respective teams would most likely retire the car and they wouldn't even attempt to take their place on the starting grid.

You guys lost 3rd on the start of your first lap but still ended up on the second step of the podium having dropped only a few points to your closest rival (and lets not even discuss legitimacy of engines for the class in question etc).

All things considered you managed to finish the round with valuable points (and silverware) in the bag and have given yourselves a fighting chance. That's nothing to feel bad about surely.

Now if Hamilton had lost 3rd gear on the formation lap but had started the race anyway and ended up taking 2nd place on the podium I reckon both he and the team would be mightily chuffed with themselves.
