Knackered. Every time i spend a day on it i cant understand how mechanic types do this every day. Jag now has a floor, a sill with no holes in it and a enough paint to stop it rusting before I finish tidying. I'm off to drop dead.

pics to follow.

Welded up and sprayed with stone chip underneath:

And Satin black for the moment on the sill to keep the weather out until I can find some dry long enough to give it a skim of filler and paint it the right colour.

Good old hammerite inside where it dosnt show.

Now all i have to do is remember where all this lot goes and screw it back together :hurray:

Whoop, did bugger all Sunday, lazy walk along the beach with the family, a few session Destiny with some mates and cooked mince beef and onion pie for dinner.

But this evening, I plugged the ECU back in, slapped a wheel back on, carpets in, drivers seat back in place, battery reattached and turned the key...

Started first turn, a quick run up and down the drive and all is well, happy man. Few bits of trim left to attach , some front bumper mounts to rebuild and the shock bushings to change and we're good to go.

So i fired up the laptop and insured it. £250 fully comp with the AA, with no no-claims as its in use on Nigel. Sweet.

Tax tomorrow once the database is up to date and I'm almost there, now where's me Wurthers?

Taxed during the week on the new rolling month roadtax by Direct Debit.

Today, replaced the O/S front shock top bush, put the interior back together, made some temporary front bumper mounts (Still need to buy a new pair to get bumper aligned) bumper back on, araldited a broken headlamp lug and cracked grill upright back in place. And done.

And took it for a spin down the road, the shock top bushes have fixed the O/S/F suspension clonking, but now I can hear the N/S/F doing the same thing, not as loud, so that's the next job. Other than that it pulls a bit to the right under heavy breaking so some thing is not quite right there, sticky piston one side mebe? something else to investigate.

But its on the road and working, happy man.

:sifone:

So then I give the keys to Laura and suggest she takes it for a spin in case she needs it in an emergency, you know, get used to it in the daylight, in she gets turns the key and .... nothing, click. eh? it worked 5 seconds ago, so I try the keyfob buttons... nothing... eh? Turns out as a safety feature it wont start if the doors aren't all shut. Doh.... you live and learn.

Well I've had six months trouble free wafting about, but that came to an end on the way back from work where dear old Rupert cut out twice and rolled to a halt.

Its also now having trouble starting. And has to crank for a while.

The bracket that holds the crank angle sensor had bust so i replaced that:
Image

And also the Crank Angle Sensor for a known good one, but no improvement.

These cars are notorious for Throttle Position Sensor failure causing all sorts of odd behaviour so last night checked that by jamming a couple of pins in the back of the plug and going at it with the multi-meter.

Image

Got a nice smooth increase in voltage as the throttle spindle turns. 0.39v to 4.07v which I hope is close enough to the shop manual range of .5v to 4.5v seems fine....

I also pulled all the plugs, but they looked absolutely fine, except that 2 & 3 had oil above the washer, maybe the cam cover gasket has failed?

I changed them as I had a spare set.

Bit stumped.

I'll run through the other sensors tonight, MAF, Water temp etc... Failing that I guess its pull the coil packs one at a time in case one makes less of a difference than its brethren.

But any suggestions from electrical auto geniuses would be appreciated :)

1.003 Kohms coolant temp sensor after engine runnng, about right.

Forgot to write this down but I think the MAF was giving .11g/s to .3g/s either way it was a nice smooth increase as the accelerator is pressed.

0.6 / 0.7 kOhms resistance all coilpacks, pulled each one at a time with the engine runnning and all made it far worse/stall.

It does have one Fault code P1621. Which comes back when you clear it.

Some odd things:

This wire (which looks to have been repaired), is not attached to anything and I cant find a single orange wire on the wiring diagram.

And this plug laying by the abs again has no home and i cant find on the wiring diagram.

Any help, thoughts on what to check next would be much appreciated.

Stumped.

Think I may have found it, there's a crack in one of the coilpacks and as you pull i t its arcing to the cam cover through the crack.

New coil I guess.

New cam cover gasket and plug hole gaskets have arrived. Can't see where the old ones failed all looks good, in there. Amazing how good it looks for a 135k lump.
