1994 1JZ MKIV

Post by MrBrooks »

First of all, the MX-5 is up for sale if anyone wants to enquire. Solid mechanically, just needs some love on the bodywork. Car won't be pricey, just need rid of it.

I've bought a Japanese Import 1994 Toyota Supra MKIV. It started life as a 2JZ 3.0L N/A but the previous owner swapped in a 1JZ 2.5L Twin Turbo with a 5 speed manual transmission. Just waiting on it's arrival now but is quite tidy. It was previously red, resprayed gold/champagne and is an acquired taste I think. Engine bay will eventually be sprayed :hurray: And before you ask, no it didn't cost an arm and a leg to buy and insurance (£667) is cheaper than the MX-5.

Being a previous Supra owner myself, this will be interesting to see. Albeit heavy, the JZA80 chassis is very well balanced - can only get better with less weight and a proper geometry setup. ;) Be wary of the rear axle bushes, in fact just replace them when you get it. Last thing you want to feel is the rear end not staying put when you need it to be.

Will keep an eye on how this turns out. :coolgleamA:

Very nice!

Certainly is a purposeful looking creation.

When does it land?

I like that; I like that a lot :)

If the paintwork needs a tickle when it gets here, give me a shout

The interior is basically stripped out already. There's no rear seats, no spare tyre, no rear carpet. It's basically the dash, 2 front seats and front carpet. I'll take a look at the rear axle bushes, I shouldn't imagine they're too expensive either. Things that I'm doing when the car lands;

[*]Change all belts
[*]Change all fluids
[*]Check discs and pads (these were brand new to my knowledge anyway)
[*]Check tyres (these are nearly new to my knowledge)
[*]Give it a good once over and also waxoil the underneath

It should land in approximately 6-8 weeks. I put a deposit down with my friend the day before the Japanese close up shop for Christmas and they returned on the 5th and still replacing the fuel pump :willy_nilly:

Cheers Stu! I think it needs your magic touch when it lands, will have to book a session soon.

Tell you what though, you got that for a right proper bargain. Cheaper than what I paid for mine. ;) :driving:

Thats an interesting conversion. ....having owned a NA mk4 and a twin turbo aerotop mk4 and a Soarer 2.5 manual I would be interested in seeing this.....
just to see how it performs with the 1jz......its a very tuneable and strong engine

No matter how I register it (VIN says 3.0L N/A or if I declare engine swap), insurance stays the same. It's interesting that someone's gone through the effort to mate the 1JZ with the JZA80 chassis, just got to find some good mods now. It's running stock boost and is clocking 276bhp stock. My aim is for 360-380bhp by the end of the year. I don't want too much power otherwise I'll be buying tyres every other week.

Just BPU it Ryan. Pretty much guaranteed to get the power you're looking for

I was thinking BPU at the first stop. It's already got an aftermarket custom exhaust. I'm unsure if the cats have been removed but it'll be fully decat soon. It's having a new fuel pump put in as we speak :hurray:
