You are right Ian, when powder coat chips it leads to water ingresses between the metal and coating, making it rot faster. Plus the powder coat will fall off in chunks as they commonly do with kit car chassis as you've pointed out.

The type R is in .....

No interior, all door cards and trim removed, exterior stripped down as far as my ability can cope - still saved 6 hours of labour all told.

Anyone for the spoilerless look :) - And Logan will be happy that 'that' sticker has gone! (Lucky I'm having it remade then)

And my poor old Donor in the event we need any extra parts

Apparently it's a high performance vehicle ... so no towing a caravan!

That'll all be well worth the aggro once it's all sorted Ben. Glad to hear the stickers are being remade. ;) Be great to see the next updates.

He has been suitably instructed Maffster ... plan is to use the images on their website as an example of work.

Apart from the dubious quarter repair I'm really pleased with the overall condition of the shell, I expected to find rust behind the mudguards .. nope, nothing, inside the wings perfect. Spotted some areas for improvement also, for example whoever fitted the intercooler used a hammer to move metal out of the way - well Chris will tidy up this so that it looks like the routing was planned!, also going to cut out more of the rear of the bumper to give space to the intercooler so the bumper sits correctly.

Also going to clean and paint the bumper slam panels etc so that it's also perfect where it isn't seen. Can't wait for Stu to underseal the car too. Had a look at Gareth's car today, the undersealing looks the business.

So, a quick update - rear quarter is off, the jap repair was allowing water ingress so the quarter has had to go.

Believe it or not, it's actually no where near as bad as was expected.

Glass is coming out ready for full paint too

More surprising is she is planned for being back on the road and finished August 11th ... I've got / arranged for a remake of all the decals too so at a glance she will look no different just much much tidier :)
