Well it was that time of year again, the Land Rover went in for its MoT. So this morning I finished off the few little jobs that needed doing like replacing the old brake pad sensor and topping up the washer fluid, thankfully it passed without any problems.

Whilst it was in the garage going through the MoT I had a nosey around in Crickhowell with my wife just to pass the time, we popped into a local art gallery to take a look at some local art work and I had to do a second take....









yep we were definitely in 'Schindler's Lift'


and more zed bits have arrived, ok so it's only a clutch hose but the way I see it is that's one clutch hose closer to a finished car

Quick question:

Is there likely to be any significant loss of structural integrity caused by cutting away the soft metal from the front of the arch?

Not sure on the structural side chief but would say not, altho what weight you'd save again I'm not sure but can't imagine much. But the amount of shit you'll have flying around your engine would be huge! Stones and bits of rubber hitting belts etc, and you were also thinking of open turbos with a bit gauze.... If you do cut them out, I wouldn't drive in the wet!

That's a fair point

I was thinking of it more as a means of getting additional access to various components as opposed to weight saving but hadn't really considered the extra debris kicking up into the engine bay, more pondering needed I think

It's been a proper de'ja' vu day today but an enlightening one none the less

I figured that as the engine bay is clear I might as well crack on getting all of the vacuum hoses positioned correctly through the bulkhead

The MAP sensor needs to be wired in




then it was time to dig out the AEM EMS and start reading the fitting instructions, just to be on the safe side this is a brand new one (albeit a V1 rather than a V2 but I'm sure it'll be fine)






The entire dash is out and won't be going back in, I appreciate that this will likely make the car ineligible for the majority of racing series but that's not the point of this build now.

I've started to sort out the sensors on the HKS gauges and figure that the usual Oil Pressure, Oil Temp and Water Temp will be sufficient along with the larger Boost gauge







I need to clarify the fmic input/output configuration, I've forgotten now, but I'm thinking about locating the bov's off the relevant fmic port






is there any reason why this wouldn't work?






If the bov is facing downwards this should alleviate any issues with water ingress (rain from above etc.) I would have thought so anyway?




Oh yeah, and I watched Godzilla at the cinema with my son.....I highly recommend it (though take your own son obviously)

Bloody typical, the Samco hose that I bought for the turbo water pipes arrived the other day (having waited friggin' weeks for it) however on closer inspection I realised that they've sent out 6.5mm instead of 8mm. I sent a message to the company via ebay informing them as such and I don't know if I'm imagining it but the response seems a bit shirty to be...


"Hi Okay, if you have received the wrong hose please send item back to us and we shall get the correct hose delivered to you"


I think it might just be me reading too much into it (and possibly I have having angry head on due to the heat) however the word 'IF' seems to jump out at me, as if I'm trying to pull a fast one?

Personally I think that having paid near as damn it £60 for a 2mtr length of hose I shouldn't be having to wait further for the correct part to be posted out to me. I have no problem sending the 6.5mm hose back on the proviso that they cover the postage....is that unreasonable?

They could have worded it differently but I don't see an issue with it and they should refund the postage no problem by sending a pic of the receipt I've done this a few times before with the seller at fault.

Is the Samco stuff 4 ply or 5 as that doesn't sound cheap.

It's the stupidly expensive high temperature hose with a 3.9mm wall thickness (looking at the cross section I think it's 4 ply though could be 5 ply?) I've compared prices with other places and it seems to be the going rate for this type of hose.

I've just sent them an email asking for confirmation that they would refund the postage due to it being their error, however I've just noticed on their ebay page that they state 'the buyer will pay postage for returned items'.....well that isn't going to happen!
