Intelligent Speed Camera's!

Post by Monster »

A heads up that people might know but I didn't - The new speed cameras can distinguish between vehicle types and photograph them in relation to the appropriate speed limit to the vehicle, rather than just the actual speed limit.

To explain, to add to my woes on my first ever sprint I got a ticket in the post yesterday, doing 68 on the A1 with the trailer on the back. It turns out that the cameras use the mass of the vehicle to detect what it is and trigger if they think the vehicle is going too fast.

Hence I got snapped doing 68 in a 70 as it knew I had a trailer on the back, as detailed in the "intention to prosecute" lesson.

so something to think about  :banghead: :cuss:

I'd heard something like this before where a guy got dragged in front of his boss for speeding in one of the works vans, I can't remember the detail but I think the guy thought he was fine at 65mph in a 70 but the van was categorised 'X' and as a result was only permitted to travel at 55 or 60.

I had half expected to get a ticket when I was flashed doing 70 in my van (all 5.5 tonne of it) whilst en route to a meeting in Cambridge last year but I've never heard anything further. I thought it may have been because it was an ex Police wagon and had a de-categorised VRN or something similar but then again maybe it was just that the speedo was fooked' and I was actually deluding myself as I was only doing 50....and fuck me does it take an age to get to 50 :driving:

Ha if I raise my truck anymore they will think it's a HGV and flash me.

I do stick to the speed limit though when I've got my trailer on that being 60 on motorways.

Thanks for the heads up and sorry to hear that you found out the hard way.

Had a simiular thing happen to me that gave us a laugh at the time. Passed a speed camera doing 65 in a 70 and turned to Alan and said 'Shit, the camera'. To which Alan replied ' Yep, and it can really tell you've got a trailer on the back'.....Seems like they can now :banghead:
