I've never seen an engine mount melt before
I have to say though I am a tad jealous that it only took 30 minutes to swap them out...
that's a good indication that the engine and engine bay weren't designed by a group of Japanese midgets who don't talk to each other

Neither had i till now. Although i did notice that on their website now. They state rated and tested on a 400bhp cossie. What ever that means.
Had a standard engine mount go on the first car which caused difficultly in changing gear on turn in. I now suspect that this may have had a hand in the gearbox breaking at Snetterton. Engine and Gearbox twist, hence why we're going to solids.

Isn't something blowing to melt a mount? Shouldn't really happen if everything's correct?

Thanks for that Ian, links things up nicely. When we took the turbo off to be sent away Alan found a few problems. The 2 parts of the manifold were split, the manifold itself was very loose and the downpipe was also blowing. I didn't link the 2 together so thanks again

Looking on the bright side, I suppose at least it was only an engine mount that melted rather than something really nasty like the loom

Looks like you have found the reasons for that 2 stroke looking dyno readout and i suppose avoid having to rebuild the engine .Will you still be doing the TA at Snetterton in July or giving it a miss this year . Pete

Not decided yet. The turbo, manifold and exhaust are still off the car while we wait for a few things to arrive. Exhaust wrap, wastegate and a couple of other bits. Then once all back together we'll have to get it back on the dyno to see whats what.

when i was taking the turbo off i noticed the the trouser piece on the manifold was loose.
i put a feeler gauge inbetween the trouser piece and the manifold and there was 0.50mm gap
and were i had taken the exhaust wrapping off was cover exhaust sut.
it was a pig of a job to get off but thankfully didnt snap any studs getting off.
last week had some goodies turn up, new wastegate and exhaust wrap.

when taking the wastegate off the trouser piece i snapped one of the studs, so ground the old stud
and weld out and went over to ashley exhaust to get a new one welded on.

however when i fitted the new wastegate and tightned it up this one snapped as well.
so again ground out the stud and weld, i was really pissed so left it and cleaned the workshop and while
doing so had thought, i shamfured a bolt and managed to slide it along the side of the trouser piece
into the hole, the shamfured piece sits nicely against the trouser piece holding it in place.

after that i wrapped the manifold, trouser piece and down pipe, changed the wastegate spring then fitted them.


there is a sandwich plate that goes between the manifold and the trouser piece.
this is needed so the turbo can be fitted as with out it the turbo wont fit.
i have left this piece exposed and not wrapped like before for couple reasons,
1. its a chunky piece of metal so need the heat to dispurse from this area as i think that when it was wrapped
it was only making the heat soak worse.
2. i can check the bolts from time to time make sure there tight.

everything back on, just need to run it today when i finish work and check for any leaks.
