Can you not try it in the rear screen first mate? Roof mounted may look a bit pony unless it's somewhere central........I know aesthetics are secondary to function but no sense in making it look like a lash up (As you said)
Good luck.

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
I can, but apparently if it's not mounted in the right place and drops out it can make the data analysis and sector times pretty tricky. So my thinking was bung it on the roof while I get used to data logging and then try it on the boot once (if) I know what I'm doing - for e.g next Monday at snett will be first attempt and as I'm pretty retarded (for which also add limited in patience and will to dick about with software) when it comes to this kind of stuff I don't really want the added complication of a moody signal.
End of the day it's only a wire so can be moved easily enough and once I know what to expect I can try the bootlid option. But I'm also hoping it's not actually going to look to bad If it works out as planned.we'll see later this week....

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
Bit of an update. First some pics
Shiny Race Technology bits turned up

Which Daz began hanging on the GTR.
First up was removing the old dash panel and all the gauges and making up a new simpler one with a piece of carbon. The Data logger needs to be mounted level, and straight - for obvious reasons (i.e it needs to know which way it's "looking" so the DL1 Club had to be mounted first.

It therefore couldn't be fitted flush to the angled panel but I'm quite pleased with how it looks. The Skylab Fusion controls were also mounted on the new panel and the logger/dash on/off switch mounted on the lower panel by the fuel pumps etc.

The Dash4 Pro comes with a bracket to mount it to the steering wheel, with a curly wire that plugs into the dash, allowing of course for steering and also the removal of the wheel. I went for the OLED display and very pleased with it, very clear and looks cool too

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
On to the outside. As per earlier posts I wasn't quite sure where to mount the GPS so decided to go with the Race Tech advice and put it on the roof so at least while I got used to the data logging I wouldn't be confused by any dropping of signal.
I chose the option running the cable up the A pillar and mounting the antenna close to that so there was minimal cable showing. I'm pleased with this as it really is quite difficult to notice, which is good.
Here's a shot from a distance

And here's a close up

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
Another less media heavy update.
Was at Snett yesterday for first outing of the year. Had a few problems with the Dash and how it talks to the ECU - for example boost not reading properly (turns out Race TEch need to write an equation to remove the extra 1000 milibars that the Syvecs uses (something to do with ....metric pressure...over my head...). Also no air temp reading. Discovered that one of my new sensors (Oil Pressure) doesn't work and one that I put on at the end of last year (fuel pressure) has packed up - grrrr.
However, made progress and the dash was giving me other sensors aswell as laptiming, and I set up the shift lights, which may also need some further playing with. The live time slip functionality which was a big selling point for me was also excellent, and frustrating in equal measure. If you are quicker in a sector than your previous best lap it gives you a green light, if slower then red. I found myself with random green flashes when I thought I was slower and reds when I thought I was doing well. Still, this is good as it's all good stuff to work with. I wasn't really trying to set lap times or use all the new functionality I've added to the car, rather test it and play with it, and a lot of time was spent messing about with stuff. The synch with the go pro also worked so when you start the data logger it also starts the gopro.
As a point of reference I did a 2.11 best which is 3 secs down on my pb. I know where some of that was lost but probably not all. I was running the Khumo's rather than the MPSCs too and I don't know if they make a difference.
The other new part on the car was the Skylab TCS Fusion. As it was dry, and I was busy with the dash and logger, I didn't adjust the settings away from standard at all, however I'm really pleased with the unit. It replaces the original G sensors with Electronic version to give much quicker responses and boy does it work well. In standard settings the car hooked up soooo much better out of slower corners I was amazed. Where before in say a 2nd gear exit, it would just flick sideays as soon as it hit boost, now it just hooks up and goes. I was really impressed and even began experimenting with 2nd gear at Oggies where 3rd was the gear of choice previously to prevent messy wheelspin/sideways. Again, once I'm up to speed the datalogger will give the truth.
The GTR behaved itself. Used no oil, all temps good. The external fuel pump had a moment or two and then made me paranoid that it was very noisy and on it's way out (esp with no fuel pressure sensor and thus the ECU cuts disabled.......). I was going to order a new 044 today but apparently they cant handle Meth so some decisions are to be made. I also had the engine light come up twice after lunch which is the knock warning how Ryan set the Syvecs up. A quick call to him reminded me that it is literally a warning and the ECU will automatically adjust the timing etc to compensate, it's just a warning. The finger of blame was pointed at the circuit fuel, despite it being mixed with half a tank of VPower so I added some octane booster and didn't see the light again.
So a good days learning yesterday and great to have the car out again. oh, and the splitter didn't fall off

Out of hibernation and straight back into it, that's good to hear and with a good amount of elec-trickery' bits to boot by the sounds of it
so jealous you wouldn't believe

Re: Project GTR (zed replacement)
Sounds like a very productive day and nearly there on the logger and dash setup.
If you are a pretty consistent driver sometimes the green and red (up/down on laptime) lights can be distracting and I prefer to see the actual timeslip in seconds on the dash. I don't know for sure but I assume the lights will show based on hundredths, easy to drop a few hundredths, make them back again and lose them again in a few metres. I'll try and find out actually.
A good way to setup shift lights to be perfect (as you can define them different;y based on each gear) is to have the video showing the shiftlights and displaying the rpm overlay from the data. Some of my Middle-East drag buddies have recently started doing this and in many cases made dramatic gains (drag racing
as opposed to dressing up in female clothes
