Hmmm, doesn't inspire confidence to me, I suppose it depends whether you want a turn-key car or bit of a project!

I'd say it would best to try and get the best car you can find/afford, as Evo's can soon swallow a decent amount of cash!
Most will need a few bushes doing, you then want decent brake pads for sprinting and tyres if it has just random road tyres!

What you need to find is one owned by an enthusiast, that's got an ECU and boost controller, decent suspension, and has been serviced properly including the AYC pump.
Also if looking at one get right under it as if its not been under sealed when imported loads of 5's and 6's have some serious rust going on!! Holes in chassis legs in extreme cases.

You've probably already done this Trev but maybe a wanted ad on MLR could be worth a bash? At least that way you can see about a car's potential history and how it's been cared for. As Logan says, they can and do rot and I've seen everything from 8's and older with quite extensive corrosion. Go careful!

It is nice, not digging a paddle clutch though
Trouble is it's just out my price range without me selling the s3
The reason I was looking at Evo 4's upto 4k
Remember iv just built a garage and moved into a new house that needed a new kitchen,carpets,refurb etc.. so money has been like sand through my fingers just recently
