Evo 4's

Post by Tk »

I'm thinking about sprinting again and looking for a suitable steed
Obvious one is an impreza but fancy a change
What are the evo4's like ?
What are there usual problems ?
Can be had for around 3-3.5k Am I potentially buying a whole world of trouble
Or better off buying a decent 6
I really don't want to be chucking 6-7k around a crappy sprint course

Thoughts?

I know you fancy a change from Imprezas Trev, but I think you've answered your own question. Since the sprint circuits are so broken up and shitty along with Subarus being so abundant (and can be had for such little money) even if they are a shed you can always do what Stu does.

Buy cheap > rag to death > break for parts > profit > buy another. :)

Of course you hold the right to tell me to shut up as I have no experience of sprinting and I know how much you like to build your cars.

The evo 4 has the weakest engine and suffers from crankwalk, smaller brakes less options for wheels as has a narrower track. 5 onwards as its pretty much a 6 just with different bumpers.

I thought it was the earlier evo's 1-3 that suffered crankwalk
5's and onwards fetch a premium
Maybe il forget about them

Steering away from imprezas as the just seem to constantly need work/things fixing/upgrading
Same reason I don't want anothe pulsar although the driving experience in a gtir is good fun/mental
Back to the drawing board

You are correct, it is the 1-3s that suffer the crankwalk. Having said that don't dismiss them until you have driven one. Can be had for a paltry 2-2.5k nowadays. 4wd, no elec centre diff, no traction control, and 0-60 in 5 secs. I've had mine nearly 7 years now so that must say something. I've owned 22 other cars in that time.

What about a 200SX?

Or does it have to be 4WD?
