So basically here goes. I've been a member of this forum for many years, after meeting ben at APT many years ago when he had his gtr.
here's the thing, I still haven't driven a car out on a track yet! main reason up until now has been mainly financial restraint. I need to do it this year or I feel as if it may never happen. anyone planning anything this year?
I am also trying to figure out the best thing car wise. would I use the evo? 300hp for the first time maybe too much? or do I keep the mr2 and strip it out for fun?
give me some help guys, I feel I am wasting away here.

Re: losing the V plates
Buy something cheap, like £500 worth of 2.0 focus and take it to an airfield day, like at Woodbridge.
Thats where I did my first trackday, miles of run off and few worries.
Honestly you dont need to strip anything out for the first run, empty the boot and the glovebox maybe, possibly a second set of wheels with some road tyres on as the airfields eat tyres.
Then for round two, maybe a bucket seat and a harness.

That sort of thing sounds good. Local to me too. Does the car need to be road legal to do an airfield day?

Re: losing the V plates
Nope, just safe and mechanically sound.
My first ever outing on any kind of track was the Brakston Heath sprint circuit.

Re: losing the V plates
mechanically sound? that rules out any of my cars then
im trying to work out how to go about trailering a car to an event. from what I can make out any trailer towing over 750kg has to be braked. am I correct?

Licences held from 1 January 1997
If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997 and have an ordinary category B (car) licence, you can:
drive a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes or 3,500kg MAM towing a trailer of up to 750kg MAM
tow a trailer over 750kg MAM as long as it is no more than the unladen weight of the towing vehicle (with a combined weight of up to 3,500kg in total)
For anything heavier you need to take a category B+E driving test.

taken from the gov.uk website.
guess it means I can, as long as the trailer is lighter than the towcar??

Re: losing the V plates
It's bloody complicated,
1.what would you be towing with?
2.whats its unladen weight?
3.How much would the car being towed weigh?
4.whats the trailer laden and unladen weights?
So many variables.
Law changed again last year.
