Cheap car wash vs Auto-Genie (3 week old L200 wrecked)

Post by Stuart »

I'll let the pictures do the talking so here's the 'before's' (please bear in mind that this is a 20k+ truck and it's brand new)
Swirls, marring and random deep scratches over every single panel (except the roof as they haven't bothered to clean that!Image

The time allowed to get the whole job done meant that I had to compromise on the standard I could get, and I also had to allow for sign writing on the panels so chasing deeper mark removal would be at the cost of the graphics
First full test panel

With the machine work complete I wanted to get the protective coating applied as soon as possible, to take advantage of the weather and allow for a longer curing time
Image
With the coating/sealant on it was time to address the other areas of the job; tyres protected, alloys protected, glass sealed, arches cleaned, side steps cleaned and dressed, all door shuts done, engine bay cleaned and dressed, seats cleaned and treated as well as carpets, mats, pedals, switchgear and dash. Lots to do!

So after a long day with careful planning and good quality products, the truck was finished to a decent standard that fell within the time allowed and the customer's budget. The damage done by the car wash was considerable and when I consider how much of an improvement there was before and after, I do have concerns about the standards of black or dark painted cars that I'll be seeing this Spring and Summer. Proof that you really do get what you pay for!

Thanks for reading this update. There will be plenty to come in the next few weeks

Single bucket wash?
No pre-contact clean?
Sponge rather than a mitt?
Collected mud/contaminants from lowdown on the panel and swept this upwards?
Dried carelessly?

Who knows? This is far more common than you may think.
