Back Road Hack - Sti or EVO or....

Post by Monster »

This thread may go nowhere as I potentially have an extension to pay for and as we move out of winter I may be less bored so the urge will subside but I've decided there's something missing in my life, which is a car I can take for a thrash to put a smile on my face and get the blood pumping. The GTR is just too track focused to be enjoyable on the road now.

I've obviously been considering classics as per my other thread (and still am, a decision has been made on what I want) and have wondered about Mk2 golf gti's amongst other things that could serve for this, but am worried it'll just be to slow, altho mega cool.

So I've been looking at ads for Blob Eye Sti's and similar money Evo's.

I know there are lots of Scooby/Evo people on here and also some likely suggestions I've not thought of so interested in opinions.

I really loved my Dandelion Yellow Evo5 all those years ago (sadly sold for first house purchase) and the 5 is still my fave of the Evos, I just think the bumper looks better than the 6. But I wouldn't say no to a Reims blue 6.

Sti wise a UK ppp seems a good option from the classifieds.

But I'm also considering digging out my old contacts and buying in Japan, 10 years old, fog light and MOT and off you go. Just means I have to wait, which I'm not good at...

is it with boys toys? they've got it on PH too. I may be totally wrong and praps should take a ride down there but they come across as not the sort of outfit I'd buy a car from for some reason.

hearing you on the golf fella, that's what you said when I first spoke to you about it

I was always a Subaru fan until the Evo 6, I just loved the noise of the flat four and the kudos from Colin Mcrae. I just felt the Evos didn't really look like much.

Then from the Evo6 Tommi Makkinen edition onwards I have to say I'm more hooked on those now than Imprezas (apart from Bens fantastic Type R!). Plus I really really like the Forester STIs.

Some immense bargains around from Japan for Evo 7s and 8s and they are up for silly money !! I guess as always it pays to tread carefully. Good thing is Gary knows everything there is to know about them.

Surely there is one going on the MLR with a few choice parts ?

Guess it depends what you want it for though, you can't mod it too much otherwise it will be a direct competitor for your R32 ?

Yep  No idea about them mate. Paul Brown Cars is another one that would be worth looking at and their stock seems to be pretty good.

Without starting an EVO/STI/GTR is best banter string I think i'd have to mod it quite considerably to even have it's bumper melted by the GTR's flaming zorst :D

but yeah that's not really the plan, just sensible stuff.... he says..
