Cheers Gareth.
If it was money no object I'd rather have the whole thing resprayed. but as I'm nearing the end at work I'd rather just get the essential bits sorted out on the car and break it down into segments. The guy will be using a colour spectrometer anyway so the match each time should be fairly decent.

It won't be so bad when I land into another job, at least then there will be money trickling in.RX7 wrote:I sympathise Dan. Would like to respray mine but couldn't justify it for the amount of use it gets.
That's cool though. It'll be better than it is won't it.

Small update. Managed to replace the crystal USDM spec indicator/repeater units after finally finding the correct UK/JDM looms!
Ordinarily I would sell the chavtastic clear units but since I won't be keeping this in the new year, I'd rather put them back in and keep my lovely new OE ones.
Finally have separate sidelight/indicator housings!

And I also too the liberty of buying again OE wing repeater housings. Proper left, chav spec right.

Doesn't sound like much of an update but it does make the car look visibly better and I have balance restored.
Plus no more honking retards shouting at me for "your hazards are on mate"

Thanks Russ.
Nah, still plan on selling it as and when funds are available and when one that ticks the boxes comes up.
The clear corners etc will be coming with me when it sells (the chav ones are still in the garage.) However over the last couple of days I've been slowly addressing the body work.
Quite chuffed with it to be honest!
New drivers sill painted in 6M1 Goodwood Green;

There was a small rust patch on drivers door;

Knocked that back, rust treated it, filled, painted and lacquered;

Removed the scuttle panel, cleaned, painted and lacquered;

Wiper arms also given the paint treatment as they looked pretty rank;

Both drivers and passengers light cowlings have also been cleaned, painted and lacquered.

The front lip had a few scrapes that needed sorting out;

Masking up the front to spray the lip;

Entire bottom lip now repainted to match the body work. It looks darker in this photo because of the bumper curve catching the light above;

Front corner scraped, this needed sanding back, filling, priming and repainting;

This corner is now fully repaired;

And now I finally managed to fit my clear corners with the correct looms so I now have seperate sidelight and indicator housings!

All in all, quite happy with the outcome so far.
So around Feb-ish Steve will address the upper drivers door and the two front wings since they really do stand out, then that'll be it for bodywork! And I'll feel happier that another MR2 has been kept on the road for when it goes.

Thanks Stu, for ropey weather the outcome is actually not bad at all! Just need to leave everything to cure properly over the next few days before polishing the places up. And then it'll be another thing to cross off from my list.
I've also just worked out a nice little MR2 based product that could have serious potential to make some money for me on the side. Have to keep this idea away from the forum/public domain etc. So sorry I cant elaborate!

Go steady with polishing Dan.......there will be next to no paint on there if you have used aerosols mate, and the likelihood of cutting through your new paint will be pretty high! Something like Autoglym SRP or Meguiar's stage 3 would be about as far as I would go (by hand and buying from the high street) and even then don't use too much pressure; there simply won't be the paint thickness on there to use.
