My car still has a bigpower sticker on not that you could see it through the dirt on the stand
I have to admit I too tend to lurk and read more than I post. But then I never really have much to say.

Maybe, as well the issue is in the name itsself? Ie people are put off as it states "BigPower" which then people think they don't fit into?

This is a tough one.
Reading through the forum today would actually be less off putting than when i first joined. Back then we had 182bhp and one of the lowest bhp figures on the forum. Which was slightly off putting. Once I started posting i soon realised that the bhp output was not important.

The fact we no longer have the dyno league table is, in my opinion, a good thing. The diversity of cars, build threats and events is what makes this forum special. The club events were great social events where we could get out on track in a relaxed atmosphere, but even back we all still did our own thing.

I don't think changing the forum name would make any difference plus what would we change it to?

As stated by others, Forums/Clubs and the like do become cyclical in terms of activity and general support due to any number of reasons not just a single cause.

Being one of the older (if not the oldest member in age terms) and with an Engineering background I can only say it was the right decision to insist on supporting evidence to performance figures and definitely to ban "text speak".

Is the forum name "bigpower" the right one? perhaps not today, when even mundane family cars are knocking out high BHP figures, by the same token it may inhibit membership if potential members perceive that their cars do not have Bigpower. a tricky one.
From my perspective I have and hope to continue to enjoy membership even though my circumstances have changed through retirement I still plan to maintain an interest in fast cards, track driving and generally having a common interest with like minded souls but the track activity will be at a reduced level.

We do need to generate interest (well done to those who supported the club at the Race Experience) but bearing cost in mind we could look at days out, drives distance rallies etc. all of which are in the main affordable.

Some serious thought is required to take the club forward, perhaps a working group with diverse input/interests is required to reshape the clubs style and position so that once again people will want to join and take part in something that has been quite unique

Good point and one that I have raised on a number of occasions. When the forum moved servers and we had a reshuffle behind the scenes, 'Purespeed' was suggested as a re-brand but it wasn't adopted for various reasons. I knew that guys with bike engined kit cars would comment 'I don't have big power but I can kick your arse' at sprints and the like, so it definitely provoked some reaction *I no longer own Purespeed by the way

Fundamentally we love cars. Big V8 show cars, race cars with light chassis and revvy engines, monster power cars like the Team Extreme & Raging Bull Racing stuff, street sleepers and the road legal race stuff like APT and Logan's.........to have such a diverse range of cars in one club with no bullshit is something to champion, something to celebrate and shout about: open to ideas about names but it ain't going to be easy

Pooling resources could be a great idea, but folk are busy and many, understandably, take the path of least resistance. Do you mean a physical get together Harry, or some kind of email group? Would a steering committee actually get any kind of traction in a think tank scenario get much done? Talking for the sake of it drives me bloody mad, so time invested must bear results.

Any steering committee would need clear guidelines minimal face to face meeting better use of e-mail and structured around key areas of activity and potential growth.
definitely not lots of meetings it has taken me 3 years away from that environment to get back to normal

We, the club/forum, would definitely need a show of hands to justify a name change before anything happened though, and even then Ben and I would need to agree to it as well (or vice versa; maybe we'd need to do that first )

Relevance to current needs is one thing, but the Bigpower name has a certain 'worth' in terms of brand and age. On that subject, I found some old BP modified live t-shirts from 06 earlier All brand new and in the bags.
