Replacing a sill (suggestions please)

Post by Daniel »

Morning. :)

I'm off to look at a 'stop gap' MR2 this Sunday (until I find a blue T-bar turbo) , the guy so far has been very upfront and straight about the car.
He said that the only real scabby thing body wise is the drivers sill that was 'sorted' out by a garage.

As we can see, it's not exactly a pretty repair.

So, in the realms of theoretical pricing. How much would you estimate (or know if you repair stuff like this) something like this costing? I'm not after painting and sealing in, that side's taken care of. Just literally cut that all off, butt weld in a sill (or profile sheet stock)

Russ, not sure how far your car trickery extends to. But I'm looking in your direction. :) :smash:

Did someone shout?:D
Dan you know i wouldn`t sting on price mate. I would say that looking at that there is a fair chance the sill repair would be bigger than those two patches. To get a good lasting repair it would have to be taken back to good metal without any rust in it. That said a whole sill chopped out and replaced should be able to be done in a day if you just wanted it welded in?
Best you give me a ring if want to discuss it further mate.;)

That I did mate.
I know you wouldn't sting on price. Well I found a primed replacement sill on eBay which I'll snap up as soon as possible if the rest of the MR is solid, if not then it's all dead in the water. But either way mate I will be in contact at some point and hopefully soon. :D Just fingers crossed that I'll be coming home with something!

Cheers Russ.
If this green one is way beyond repair or has any big money noises then I will be walking away from it and go look at another one. Eitherway, we'll see what happens this Sunday! :smash:
