Ok decision made

the fun begins

I'll have to call in a favour with a mate of mine and get this housing machined to match the other one

I've already started planning the changes to the engine bay, it's basically being simplified as much as physically possible (and maybe some more besides!)

I need to somehow make this VG as easily accessible as possible in order to make repairs and maintenance as pain free as can be

Once the old VG is out I'll get cracking on heat shielding and repairing the loom (there are a few brittle connectors in there which would cause no end of trouble, so these need replacing for new)

In the background we'll be working on a VH45DETT in slow time

Don't put ideas like that in my head because like a tit I'd start doing it today and find myself in 2 years time with a partially space framed front end still waiting to be finished...

no the focus now is to get this engine back together and get it swapped over

I've sorted the water pump already (ok that was really easy) but I'm getting the easy bits done first.

I'm hoping that the turbo rebuild will be pretty painless

Right, it was going fantastically well

I managed to fit the water pump, inlet and outlet water pipes, rear turbo water pipe and oil filter etc.

then encountered the first 'bastard bolt' of this build, the fooker' sheered clean off

Image

so out came the drill

typically the drills both decided to take the piss, one wouldn't undo and the other wouldn't tighten!!

Image

however after about an hour of swearing and smacking of said drill whilst secured in a vice, it eventually started to play ball

Image

Eventually I managed to drill out the remainder of the sheered bolt. I need to pick up a different tapping set tomorrow to re-tap the hole as I'm not happy that the new bolt is sitting properly

Image

All going well, I should have a lot more done by this time tomorrow

all fun and games eh!!

Sorted....

I ordered some new heat sleeve today to give the new oil hoses some additional protection

and have sent pics of the current partially fitted roll cage to Nickson-Motorsport so that they can supply me with a quote for welding in the whole cage including the additional un-fitted parts and modifying some double/triple door bars and extra bits like gusseting etc....hopefully it won't be a horrendous price, though generally I believe their prices are very reasonable
