Well well well, what an experience !

Day started out nice and early , we made a nice relaxed trip from Sandringham to the track via Cafe Nero and waitrose to get some snack.

Arrived at aprox 12.45 surprised by the level of activity not everyday the car park has dirt bikes flying about riden by what look like 5 year olds.

Anyway ventured out to the reception to watch some of the karts going around and there were some mighty impressive little kids zooming about in there serious karts and they looked fast.

everyone started to arrive by about now, payment and introductions out the way it was time to crack on.

Getting suited up in the supplied race suits made me think Jon B had made the right choice bringing his own suit and lid but never the less feeling smelling and no doubt looking like stig of the dump i headed with the others to the briefing room for what was a very odd briefing compared to the track days i am used too :)

Not knowing what to expect i was becoming more and more nervous, i had never been in a go kart before and the time was now upon us to qualify to determine the grid order for the start of the race.

sitting in the kart was a new experience the thudding of the little engine and the layout was alien but felt good. The time come to move on and what a crazy feeling the steering was mental i felt like i could have picked it up and turned the kart easier. !

The first lap was interesting Jon B set the pace out the front and i tried to follow him overtaking a few people from the outset. Never having driven a kart before i could not get used to the grip and the sun combined with the rain made it slippy very slippy tokyo drift slippy sometimes no doubt the better drivers dealt with this just fine but struggling to adjust i was just trying to learn the track the kart and take it all in.

Before i knew it it was over. ! Err ok back to the beginning of the track to get picked for the grid. It was a horrible feeling sitting there waiting for your number to be called in front of everyone else. I felt like a fat kid awaiting the mandatory selection in the school football team Jon B was up first then my friend James then a few others then me ! Me !!! I looked around a few times surely he cant be me ! it was clarified by him barking my kart number i moved towards the grid in 4th ! ( i think ) i was so happy it was unreal i felt chuffed with myself and to be in a position where i may be able to mix it with my mates was cool.

The rest of the grid filed in behind and we were all set to go. in experience got the better of me again here as i assumed ( wrongly ) there would be a lap to warm the tires but no green is indeed for go so to say i got a bad start is a understatement but it was all good.

It was hectic cars everywhere outside inside behind in front mental !!!!!

Still trying to get used to the kart i just did what i could i lost a few places but made them back up had some amazing battles with Dom and his mate ( red helmet man ) ! or captain block everyone as i nicknamed him ! I also watched the same guy push Dom into the tire wall right in front of me showing me in what can only be described as stale tire wall water which was nice for me but i imagine less so for Dom :) For this same incident i did not realise that a yellow did not apply to the whole track so i was plodding around under a yellow assuming it covered the whole track ! wrong again . . . ohh well.

I had a blast had some huge slides some great battles some late move and all together some mega fun ! I was perhaps a tad to curtious more so than others meaning i could have done better position wise i guess if i had of risked more but i wanted everyone t have a safe race :)

By the end i was glad to see the checked flag, it was for me the perfect distance to race for.

getting out my whole body ached my ears hurt my hands were frozen and my chest numb due to a crappy race suit that had been open for the full 50 laps !

But what a rush

I can not wait to go again it was truly epic and to top it all off i finished 5th !!! YAY so happy wy friend Jamie came 2nd and Jon B came 1st but i am sure he will be on to tell everyone about this :) LOL

thanks to DOM for setting this up what a great event, lets get another in the diary asap Christmas meet style :)

I have put my lap times into excel to get a new graph and to add them up for total race time be interested to see if anyone else has done this to compare overall time which i think was the only thing missing from the time sheet i would have liked.

Thanks so much again and hope i was well behaved and will be invited back.

here is my graph - worth remembering i have used the smallest possible scale so lap times look inconsistent but overall they were fairly consistent ( scale aside ) and excluding the "yellow flag lap" :)

Cracking right up Arron, great day out and was good to meet some new faces.

Its been a while since I have been karting, however I am sat her aching and with back pain. If someone now knocked on my front door and asked me if I wanted to go again... I would limp out that front door in a shot. The thing which I really enjoyed today was the sheer amount of people on the track, in the past I have only been to events were there has been 10 or so people. So to have 18 was quite snug, 50% of the battle today was about being fast, the other 50% was dealing with the traffic effectively which was certainly a challenge!

Haha about red helmet man aka captain block, he was also the guy that rammed me off the track.....twice! I used to consider him as a friend! ;)

I will look to organise a further event, I will probably do it at ellough park. I would still love to do a team endurance if we can get the numbers.

Finally congrats to John B, consistency won the day - even the guys working there commented how consistent John was.

John...if you're reading this...allow 5 mins or so for your head to go down before leaving the room! ;)
