Spray a load of carb cleaner around the inlet manifolds while its running and see if the revs pick up.

I spent most of today fault finding......which depending on which way you look at it (ie. I didn't find the fault) was a big fat failure of a day

I did make this though :)

Image

So I'm not completely shit.....just mostly shit!

The panel isn't finished yet, clearly, but maybe a bit of paint a few bolts and a bit of rubber strip around the edges, should see it done.

After packing up I then went into my workshop and set to stripping down one of the GT675RS tubs, and my God did Ztech fuck that up!!!

bent and crushed oil pipes, hand tight banjo connectors, hand tight bolts, a bodged re-machined turbo housing (fuck knows why they did that?) and generally a balls up of a job

still, at least it'll keep me busy

I've arranged with a specialist up in Wolverhampton to get the zed in and go over it with a fine toothed comb and sort the problems out. Depending on what we find when we're up there will determine my next course of action

If the mani's need fitting then it's an engine out job, and if the engine needs to come out then it would make sense for the forged lump to go in instead......but I'm not sure that I want another VG in there so have been discussing with Mitch up at Drift Garage, the possibility of carrying out a 1JZ or 2JZ conversion

We'll see as the Ultima is still on the cards

Panel looks great bud, even if the engine is toast :D

End of the day jsut dropping off a jack can't be that bad, so unless it's major agg to sort then do it and get some use out of it this year. Worry about JZs another time. You'll soon be taking over from me as owning but not driving the toy the longest soon at this rate!

An ultima is of course a different conversation, and one of which i do not wish to be a part

Not really much of an update on this other than to say that all of the new hoses and pipes are now fitted and just waiting on me picking up some new jubilee clips tomorrow (small oversight on my part) but I suppose it's the little things that you forget!

I've finally accepted the fact that 17's aren't going to cut it as far as (a) brake clearance go's and (b) tyre options - R888's in particular and so I've taken the plunge and bought some 18" x 10J Rota's to clear the 8 pots up front

*Note: this latest purchase may lead to a slight colour scheme change as the recently acquired Rota's are what can only be described as 'Incredible Hulk Shit Green'

It would make sense to go as wide as possible on the rear so 18" x 12J Rota GTR-D's are looking like a good shout this Christmas

The current rolled and flared arches won't cut it so the hunt has been underway to source a suitable wide arch kit. Now the z32 isn't known for its vast selection of wide arch kits and to be perfectly honest, with the exception of the wide arch kit on Christian's old white zed, I think the rest of the z32 wide arch kits look like a big pile of outdated and poorly designed horse poop!!

So out of box thinking was called for and.....well.....let's just say it'll be unique???

What I've gone for might just work but it's a safe bet that no other zed on the planet will be wearing the same wide arch kit. Whether that's good or bad is yet to be determined

I'll update with pics in due course

**Oh yeah and I re-submitted my application to MSA so fingers crossed!!!

Pez, I owe you a PM mate, not had a chance to jump on.

But I saw this post on my phone so thought I'd reply before I forget.... Good luck with the MSA bud, sure it'll be fine.

Ref the wheels, are the Rota's you've bought jsut the fronts and you'll be getting rears soon?

First a quick word of advice on the GTR-Ds which i learnt to my cost - they have shite all clearance for big brakes. I had a set of Grid Drifts on the Zed so assumed GTR-Ds in the same offset and size would be perfect for my wet tyres. Wrong! In order to get the depth of dish on the GTR-D the inside diameter of the rim reduces a long way from the face and they wouldn't clear the APs on the front of my car. So check that. Rears should be fine as obv more clearance.

If you're going this size do you want tyres? I have various slicks and wets to fit those fronts and rears and ironically was about to put the lot of fleabay as my folks are moving house and dad wants them out of the garage :( PM me if interested as need shot sharpish.

Intrigued on the arches....

Hello chief thanks for the heads up,

yeah the 18" x 12J GTR-D's are for the rear (either ET 0 or ET 20) will have to check this. The rear brakes are 6 pots on 356mm discs which are fine with 17's ID and spoke clearance so should be ok on 18's, it's the 8 pots on 356mm discs up front which have proven to be a complete nightmare.

I've just picked up a pair of 18" x 10J Rota SVN (ET 30) these are intended for up front

I'll have to look into other options for up front in a bit more detail I think.

The plan is to have two pairs of GTR-D's 12J (one pair for wets and one pair for dry) and 10J's for the front (again wet and dry)

I'm interested in seeing what tyres you've got bud, will discuss via PM

Well I took two days out and stripped VG down AGAIN!!!.....then rebuilt it.....na da.....so stripped it back down AGAIN!!!......checked everything was ok

Swapped injector/plenum washers seals AGAIN!! re-checked coil packs, CAS connector, knock sensor connector (which was broken so soldered that), FPR and all looks to be in order

so rebuilt.....now no spark!!!!

For all that's freakin' holy what is it with these bloody cars? :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Not much of an update but the first pair of new rims in the new colour scheme turned up yesterday and the colour has really grown on me

Image

I'm hoping that Rota come through and are able to supply two more pairs of 18" x 12" GTR-D ET20 for the rear and another pair of SVN in the same 18" x 10"" ET30 for the front, all in the same green colour

The new front splitter was picked up by my little bro' from Port Talbot on Sunday so I'll be collecting that from him today. It'll need a bit of modifying as it's not designed for a zed but I reckon the dimensions will work.

It's apparently off a 2001 Citreon Xsara WRC bodykit?

and fingers crossed the new wide arch kit should be here for Saturday so will get cracking on with test fitting that straight away

annoyingly the VG still isn't firing and I can't pin point the issue!!

Bin the VG and fit a V8 :D Sorry.......not helpful!!

Love the green for the alloys and am sure that someone with the Rota network can get these for you? (Are you buying from Julian direct or someone else? Sorry if this is elsewhere in the thread)

Like the front splitter......never knew the WRC Xsara was that kind of width?!

Look forward to seeing the kitted mock-ups......still love Zeds, so it's great to see one being 'done' on BigPower :cheers2:

I think the splitter is about 2" too short (was a very rough guesstimate) but I think I can make some use of it

We are on the same wavelength with regards to going down the V8 route, though everything points to a 2JZ conversion

however it all comes down to one thing, the z32 is a pretty shit base to start with and for the cost of a V8/2J conversion I could probably pick up a more suitable car to work with

the only reason I've stuck with this zed is stubbornness and because I've already invested heavily in it. Any conversion would effectively render multiple parts useless (AEM EMS, carbon one piece prop, Carbonetic triple plate plus all the other bits that I had off Christian).

A 2JZ would be a huge step forward but would require more investment than I'm comfortable with and a V8 would give bags of torque but potentially could throw the balance completely out of kilter.

It all go's back to 2007 when I was a gnats cock from buying a GTR.....now I just wish I had

I've been looking at buying Rota's from the Driftworks shop but if they are cheaper from Rota direct then that would make more sense
