Mr2 issues.

So here's the story. Last Monday the mr2 cambelt snapped. Bad times. But at least it gives me a chance to sort a major oil leak out.

Remainder of belt removed. Pulley finally removed. Found a perished crankshaft seal and the oil pump housing leaking. New gasket required. BUT do you think I can get one? All day going to various motor factors and nothing. The crankshaft seal I can order off tinternet so no prob there. But can't even find anywhere online to get the oil pump housing gasket.

Here's the question. Do you think I could make a gasket out of some thin rubber? Something like an inner tube thickness? Because I'm wasting time tryng to find one.

Speak to Steve Vince (used to run the Mr2 race series). A few of the racers still run these so you should be able to find a solution mate, so either check the forum or email Steve and go from there

Buy some motor grade RTV silicone. Apply and let it set with no water, job done. (personally used this a lot on the truck instead of gaskets.)

Cheers Dan had considered using that. Just slightly concerned it might not hold up to the pressure. And as it's a ballache of a job I only want to do it once!

If you put a decent amount on, it'll hold alright. The truck holds something stupid like 7 litres of water in the jacket so it'll be fine.

Ahh ok. Can you recommend a decent brand that you used?

Any will do from an autofactor. It's all the same stuff, just ask for high temp RTV silicone.

Google Mr2 race series and you should get something like trackattack come up. Steve Vince used to run the Nippon race series and the MR2 one as well. He should be able to help you.

dont just go with out gasket ,sometimes they need thickness of gasket to make covers all align up
