Really interesting post that. I too am amazed at that weight, I thought that your car would be much heavier than that, i suppose it's the size and the "yank tank" label that just makes you think that. But like everything, it's a 60s car, so it's light compared to today. Heavy compared to a European of the era but light compared to modern cars - the GTR included relatively.
Good work on the ally door cards, they look really smart . I really ought to get some door cards done as I currently have nothing, just window buttons zippy tied to the bare doors haha (note done, not "do" as I lack one particular skill to make them myself - Ability:D )
I've been wondering about a sheet of carbon but I actually like the shiny ally look you have, it's very race car and basic. I also reckon if you paint it black it will be scratched and tatty in no time. Whichever I go for I will still prob have zippys holding stuff on though...
TD wise I've just been looking before coming onto the forum, there are a couple of snett days, a bedford day and a donnington day that are looking good at the moment in October. Would be good to head on track together if you're up for it.

Did you mean the 68 Charger project Nelson are doing as that is mental from the stretched bodywork to the 572 TT hemi motor . Iam looking forward to seeing that one done .Stuart wrote:Great link, thanks(Not sure that's good news for me seeing that at gone midnight but anyway........)
I always enjoy watching anything from Nelson Racing Engines as these guys seem to continually crank out a superb standard of cars. The look of a 60's car with the power that would make a Veyron blush? What's not to like
Yes iam up for a TD although i haven't decided yet , i would prefer Snetterton as its only 5 minutes down the road for me . There is one on sat the 12th using the 200 circuit and MSV have one on thursday the 24th . I think the one on the 12th will fill up soon and i haven't done the 200 circuit yet , i will do something though before to long . I thought you might have put the GTR up the winter but then the weather is still pretty good .Monster wrote:

Here is some of the weights that i have found
This is from a Chevy manual and it shows the kerbweight of the 69 V8 coupe as 3145 pounds

Here is the weight of a 67 coupe which is slightly lighter than a 69 but it still has steel panels and most of its interior , 2999 pounds + the corner weights

Here's the 67 which the guy uses for autocrossing and as you can see does still have the steel bonnet and the rear seats are in it , and its still only 2999 pounds / 1365 kg . If it was a 69 it would be about 3075 pounds / 1400 kg

Crazy to think that it's so light. Christian's GTR will weigh a lot more than that!

The car survived the charity day on the 100 circuit ok with the only problem of a misfire coming out of the corners . It was fine in the morning but started missing later in the afternoon , i had to short shift out of the sharper corners . I realised that its a fuel pickup problem , i had noticed it before but never cottoned on to what the problem was . The fuel tank is wide and not very deep so when it get to below half level the pickup gets uncovered ,the carb has enough in it to get around the corners but runs dry coming out .
I did plan to go with an electric pump anyway because the standard mechanical one is bolted to the engine block and makes a great heatsink . So the plan is to fit a new tank with baffles and electric pump in the boot
As you can see there is plenty of room further back

As flames on here are popular i thought i would post this pic of a friends Camaro at the Pod . Its got a huge 540 cu in motor with 800 hp plus 200 hp with gas , revs to 7800 and sounds like thunder . He wondered why the floor was getting hot

I think he would sell it but you would need to part with 30k , its well fast and will get into the 8's on the nos . It also hasn't been cut about so can be put back to original if need be . PeteTk wrote:pwoooor that's beautiful

That's something that's always amazed me about these old yank tanks, getting into the 8's and 9's is very doable despite running what is effectively upgraded 60's and 70's engine technology and chassis design.
Now compare that to UK built VG30DETT powered 300zx z32 twin turbo's that struggle to break into the high 11's despite running 600-700bhp with Nos (costing circa
[img] Q. If you were stranded on a desert island, who would you rather be stranded with....Ray Mears or Bear Grylls?
A. No question....Ray Mears....you could make a shit load more stew out of that tubby little fecker [/img]

No substitute for cubic inches, they were running 10's all day long back in the 60's just wish i'd have gotten into it sooner instead of blowing loads of cash on jap motors over the years, although they do corner nicer!!!! Hehe
'51 Chevy rat rod pickup - zz4 350ci v8, TH350 box, Jag IRS LSD rear, camaro clip, boxed rails........really should upgrade the brakes

This is roughly the motor that powers the blue Camaro in the picture above http://www.shafiroff.com/sportsman/540_845.php
I don't know how much a 800hp+ jap turbo motor cost but i didn't think 12k in dollars was to bad for a complete big block v8 motor . Mind you they build 100's of these and its always cheaper when you make lots of something as opposed to one offs . http://www.shafiroff.com/ Here's the home page , worth a view just to see the range of motors they do .
In the last post about the Camaro i said about making a new fuel tank to deal with the fuel pick up problems , since then i decided not to and that it would be easier just to fill the tank up again
.
I really can't be bothered with doing too much to the car at the moment so anything easy sounds good to me . i will still fit an electric pump but not just yet .
The car was in a bit of a mess after the charity event due to me not staying on the track , so a note to myself is to stay on the bloody track as i hated having to wash the mud off . Before the event i had cleaned and polished the car , taken the wheels off to clean them and even wiped over the engine bay . So iam a bit hacked off that i got it all mud splattered and had to clean it again .

After cleaning off most of the mud with an old tee shirt and watering can i thought i would fit the bonnet vents that i made i while ago . I did think about getting a fibreglass cowl induction bonnet from the states but although it looks good and the extra clearance would be handy the car still runs ok with the original flat one , so i talked myself out of that .I know it says steel in the pic but i couldn't find i decent pic of a fibreglass one .

So i marked out the bonnet with the front of the vents level with the rear of the radiator , any further forward and i think they would draw air from in front of the rad which is not what i want .

Then i covered up the car with some sheets and carefully attcked the bonnet with a grinder

I think i made quite a neat job of that .

And here's the vents fitted , i have been itching to fit something with rivets for ages
.

Don't they look the nuts
and iam well pleased with how the vents work because without the cooling fan running you can feel the heat coming from the vents and with the cooling fan on it makes a good hand warmer . This should help a lot to get rid of the under bonnet heat when the car isn't moving and reduce the heat getting into the carburetor .
Next year i plan to do as many trackdays as possible plus i would like to due some more of the TSS if i can , i have booked at Snetty in January and if the engine hangs together then i will do one in Feb . I want to practice the heal toe thing and i think a January Snetterton will be nice and slippery and a good place to practice . Pete:Chevy_anim:
