Awesome pics....There really is nothing like an American muscle car. That poor little cossie looks so out of place. Having met Big Fil at the pod i can truely say that his setup is truely impressive and only dwarfed by his awesome car.

Agreed 100% Pabs. Fil's achievement in building such a great car, surrounding himself with truly resourceful people and carrying the whole 1200hp car thing off with such an easy swagger......he honestly could not have been cooler or more composed before his first run in nearly 12 months. Unreal!

More photos from the day

If I could have walked away with one set of keys today it would have been this Camaro. In the metal, the quality of the paintwork was superb, not captured at all in these photos

I didn't get to see this monster run, but it was built with one purpose in mind!! Fun

I immediately thought of Evildave's pick up when I saw this

Lightweight panels?? Nah......

As mentioned before, I really hadn't expected the cars to be so diverse in style and yet so high in overall standard of preparation. Cars like this Mustang were all over Santa Pod's vast car parking area

Back to the strip to see the Top Sportsman class lining up for first qualifying

Nice to see on of 'ours' name checked on several of the top cars- Well done Matt!

One for old school Ford fans........a two door Cortina with a CGV8 in it!!

Possibly my favourite truck of the day. This monster was well in the 8's from memory

Go on Phil!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its great to actually see these cars being used instead of parked up on a show and shine , the noise from these things is fantastic . The Mopars seems to be a bit of a secret in that not many outside of the yank scene know about it but even if your only in to jap stuff it is well worth a look . On my last trip there i drove home about an hour before sunset , i had the windows down and could smell the corn being cut and the onion harvest . I had the Chevy V8 rumbling away the smell of the countryside and a wonderful sunset all the way home , i could have turned the car around a drove that all again as it was just bliss . Pete

Thanks Stu for the write up and pictures, we had a great weekend testing and hopefully will turn the car round in time for this years God of the Pod. We have a couple of gremlins still to sort out with the nitrous before then but shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Next trip to Santa Pod should be fun as Martin is taking the GTR35 and Matt with the Escos so we can have some "friendly" heads up racing

Driving a fast Jap import is like coming out of the closet, you might surprise some people, but in the end you are still gay.

Ok a bit late, But ive finally got our pictures uploaded from what was a supreme weekend of drop dead gorgeous cars and racing.
I have always been a big fan of muscle cars so when stu said he was going i jumped at the chance of tagging along. That was the friday and boy was i not expecting the visual and aural treat that lay ahead. As stu has already said the quality and general high standard of the cars there was something else.
If anybody reading this has not been before i could not recommend this event highly enough. So much so that was only expecting to spend a few hours there on the friday, But within a very short space of time i had said to stu that my lad would go balmy at what was there so i quickly planned on returning with the family the following day. Which was not the most sensible thing to do with building work starting on our house tomorrow and time in short supply, But it was worth it! So much so that with 2 full days under my belt it was only the on set of rain that drove us home at 6.45pm!...........V8`s being used in anger rule!
Almost 20 years ive been attending almost every type of event at the pod. I dont know how ive missed this one before, But again as Stu has already said its one to put firmly on the future calendar.
This was almost certainly the slowest thing i saw run down the strip at 18 seconds
Image
Otherwise i would say most other tyre smoking stuff was averaging the 11-12 second mark and that was just the run-what-yer-brung guys.

Now a massive thank you to Phil for making my lads day by letting him sit in your car and for answering our stupid questions.
My son was so excited that he was going to see phil`s car in action having only ever seen it at the static displays at snetterton, Yet the noise it made there was enough to set an obsession with that car and all things mustang going. (I know after last weekend mustangs go to the top of his cool list ahead of 917`s and GT40`s)
Image
He realy didn`t want to get out!
Image
I learn`t more about drag racing in 20 mins of speaking to phil than i had learnt in the last 20 years.
If anybody thinks that drag racing is just just flooring it down a strip in a fast car, Then you are seriously wrong! The next time i attend a proper drag event i will view it in a whole new light now.
Fantastic car!

They had travelled down from north of the boarder only to pop core plugs, But had managed to blagg some new ones from elsewhere in the paddock.
I said i loved their 455 but was soon corrected and told it was a 521!:blush5:
