Emissions well out = fail mot help please

Post by pedGSR »

Hi, I took the evo for its mot this morning. It's been off the road for two years now due to financial reasons. So it's first one for nearly 3 years!. All went well except the emissions which where incredibly high at 5.46 percent CO!
What could be making them so high? Any ideas?
It's got fresh fuel in, I drained all the old out. Gave it a good 10 mile hard drive on the way to the test centre.
It seems to smell like the cat isn't working well. Could the cat have gone from being sat up for 2 years?
Cheers, pete.

Or could it be the lambda sensor? Using a voltmeter it don't appear to be switching. Could it put the emissions out that far though?

Had the same issue mate with my recent MOT.
All it needed was a new fuel filter, and a bottle of Forte fuel system cleaner. Don't buy Redex, that stuff is shit. :)

If the lambda constantly reads lean the ecu will dump in more fuel afaik :)

It should be flicking back and forwards between 0-1 volt if it's the standard narrow band sensor :)

Does anyone have a CO meter I could borrow? I have a old gunson gastester but it seems really inaccurate?
Pete.

Pete, did you see my reply to this post? As I say, I had the exact same problem only two weeks ago.

Yes, cheers Daniel. That will be my next step I think along with an oil change and a engine temperature sensor. Can't think what else it could be to put it out that far!?
