Wise words from Rob there. Agree the principle but whats to say they wont want you to bring your car in to be looked at. Then could be all sorts of things found eg noise, fuel, canards sticking out past the width of the car etc etc etc.

For the sake of half a tanks fuel is it really worth it ?

Gareth, the joys of running a modded car!
I'm not sure they can compel you to produce a car for inspection, as the Human Rights Act prevents you from HAVING to do something to incriminate yourself, but with con and use being such a mine field it's probably safer getting the bus. If Europe gets its way this site will be "Standard Power" soon

Rob

Thanks for the documents I will have a look later....however as I said at the start I accept the fact my plate does not conform to the letter of the law and am prepared to pay the fine its the inconsistency thats the issue
I had a discussion with a good friend of mine who is in the Metropolitan Police and he agrees it sounds like an error has been made and he is going to look into the offence codes etc foe me today.
If I have to pay the fine and then appeal then thats what I will do its just fcuking annoying that a proper copper and a Pcso can be worlds apart on the same offence.
Just to add a point I have no issue with the police as I really believe that most of them do a great job and on the whole I respect them and what they do.

There are lots of legal forums you can visit that will answer all these questions and more. Just Google legal forums UK and you'll have the best info possible ASAP. That's a specialty kind of thing, and you really do want the best information you can get. Best of luck!
I'm not sure if National Tyres give the best deals or not, but feel free to check them out and compare them to where you get yours.

I think sometimes you just have to leave it and take it on the chin. Case in point, back in 2007 I was followed for a mile or so by a Police car (I clocked them straight away and they were clearly waiting for me to open it up on the long straight once I'd left the built up area....so I didn't and that clearly pissed off the older of the two coppers) anyway I was flashed and pulled over half a mile from my place of work. I was asked to sit in the back seat of the cop car whereby the old older copper (showing off to his much younger/inexperienced colleague) started to read me the riot act regarding my 'ridiculously loud' exhaust. I let him babble for a bit and then I produced a signed and dated printout of a decibel meter reading that showed that my exhaust had been tested recently and showed much lower readings than those permitted (as the car in question was a '91 model it was well below the legal requirement).

The old boy got really flustered and started mumbling "what....it's uh....it's got nothing to do with decibels" (the young copper started pissing himself at this point) and realising that he had made himself look like a complete cnut in front of his young pad wan, finally declared that even if the exhaust was legal then he was going to issue an on the spot fine for the number plate being at 'an odd angle'

The plate was borderline and to be fair was maybe pushing the limit a tad; it actually sounds like it was situated in a similar place to yours mate (stuck on the front bumper at a slight angle) so rather than argue the case further I just accepted the £30 hit and left happier in the knowledge that the old tit had lost face in front of the young lad and chances were that I wouldn't get pulled for my exhaust again
