Porsche 996 rescue!!

Post by Stuart »

It's fair to say that this car gets driven hard. Big money is invested in the mechanical aspects of the beast, but the aesthetics......well, lets just say that

The usual wash routine had to be dumped due to extremely hot weather, a black car and absolutely no shade whatsoever!! I basically pre-washed to get the worst of the bugs and tar off, rinsed, dried straight away and then washed each panel, rinsed and dried as I went. It took bloody ages! :D

Bealo had pointed out that the wheels and tyres were only borrowed so not to worry too much about cleaning them, but they had to be given some TLC.......even if it was just so that they didn't let the rest of the car down!
A few light scratches to remove
Image
The engine bay was cleaned and treated as were the shuts and vents
Image
Onto the polishing stages next. I decided upon a finishing compound that would be applied by hand. This gives great clarity of finish and works really well on paint like this

Exhausts were polished with Kleers whilst the rear end was in the shade

Probably my favourite angle

Trim being dressed to give it a factory black look and some protection too
Image
With no sign of the heat dropping, I was forced to start in the interior before I completed the sealant and other touches on the outside.....

The gorgeous leather and carbon seats were the focal point of the awesome interior....
Image
These are over 3k as an option from Porsche and that's without the rails!

The carpets were vacuumed and shampood, the carbon was cleaned and polished and the leather was cleaned and conditioned to maintain suppleness.

With the interior complete, I had tyres and arches to dress, alloys and calipers to seal!
Image
I chose a sealant for Bealo's car as he drives it damned hard, and I felt that a little sharpness of finish could be sacrificed for durability of protection. After applying the sealant and taking it off as soon as it hazed up, here are the results (please not glass was being cleaned throughout these photos)

Image Please note, the small white thing above the wheel on the panel, is a reflection of the neigbours Union Jack on a flagpole :)

Love the metallic flake in the door on this shot

A lovely reflection shot showing the rest of next door's Union Jack!

Wonderful.........

Those that attended Snett on Sunday or read through the photos and write-ups may have seen the car on the BP stand, but hopefully this set of photos shows how it looks when the sun is shining on it!

Thanks for reading  It will be a week or more before I have any further updates but feel free to ask any questions :)
