Not update for a wee while, but the proper factory induction arrived today to get rid of the cone filter, and will mean the inlet temperature will be functional again.
Also, the lithium grease arrived so I can strip the door back down to get that (hopefully) sorted out.

Looking forwards to getting stuck into this at the end of the month

I have nt cleaned it yet, so it'll need it by then for sure!!
Out with the old Halfords spec air filter (not secure to anything solid so would have ended up knackering the MAF and the inlet trunking)

On went the gutted lid (not for performance, just to get rid of the crusty insulation foam that would kill the MAF

And back to a factory look. The best

Massive thanks to Stu for his graft, patience and endless sarcasm at my lack of skill
I'll add the photo's if he does nt want them for his company thread.
Shame it was nt quite as shiny after 90 odd miles home, but the base level is far higher to work from, and the underside is safe for another day

Knock yourself out Rob; I'll add my own when I can upload them next week.
A very constructive days work and although I took the piss (quite a bit) there is no way I could have done that volume of work without your help. Please bear in mind that the 'finished' photos of bodywork are only after one stage of polishing rather than the two that I usually use; time was against us so I had to compromise which is something I am not fond of.

Well, where to start?
It's fair to say, I think it's been a fair few years since the cars seen any serious loving, (although the state of the interior suggests that may have been a bit too much loving).
The pain work was dull and hazy, and the underside was, I'm afraid to say crustier than a Fray Bentos pie.
I did nt get as many pictures as I would have liked as Stu had me cleaning wheels endlessly
Anyway, cue the self explanatory pictures

So on with the graft........

First things first, wheels off and while I used some flipping good products and my terrible techniques, Stu tackled the underside (poor sod)

Ending up with a happy owner and a car that will last longer than next Summer

I've often thought that there was too much hype (and expense) with "pros" and their poncey products that cost the earth. I'm afraid to admit, in Stu's case at least, there is a real difference in the skill, technique, and products used which means better results too!
All hail the Genie...
