Thanks again for all the replies.
This is exactly what I needed given the fact that again I know nothing about Subarus.
I do like Russ' wagon, the interior I thought was more than acceptable and it more than meets my needs. Afterall I drive a Pajero with a tractor dash and interior
I know that dressing a WRX the same as an STI doesn't make it an STI but I'd rather have the lower power model with STI looks.
No fancy shouty bits, just a nice motor.
v

The Pajero is still yet to shift, may even put it up on eBay classifieds to reach more people.
It'll be a waiting game now.

if thats the case then my new toy is a Ferrari as someoen asked me the other day....
Seriously I do not see the point in people trying to pass something off as something it isn't....Like the MR2 kit made to look like a Ferrari or Lambo .....fine I accept some of them are great looking kit cars same as many of the cobra replica's but that is what they are replica's ......anyway rant over !
Dan be honest with yourself mate as said before do your research and try lots of different versions and then buy what suits you best and what you can afford but sell the Paj first.....then you can go look with cash in hand........don't be tempted to buy the first thing you see.....

With cars that have obviously different body styles like the Skyline. Then I agree. But with subtle or no difference like my old Supra, then I can't see the harm in it.

But some STi's, early ones being a case in point, don't have the closed block and there is no guarantee that an Sti (or something that purports to be one) would still have the original engine in anyway..............
This is like deja vu

this is from tinterweb :
All JDM STi's from V2 had the open deck block. Here is a list of cars that came with the closed deck block;
WRX A/B (11/92 - 08/94)
STi V1 (01/94 - 07/95)
WRX/C Type RA (09/94 - 08/95)
WRX STi V2 Type RA (08/95 - 08/96)
Only the RA's had the closed deck for the final 2 years. The standard WRX/STi had already switched to open deck.
All cars after the above listed had open deck and continue to have them.

Small one's are more juicy
unless you plan to mod the arse out of your engine and run silly boost and power the open deck block is perfectly fine
opendeck scaremongering
so in theory the early wrx has the strongest engine
go with what ever model you want dan they are all ok for what you want to own one for
condition is everything
