I couldn't say that i enjoyed the shiny thing but it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be .evildave wrote:Nice work Pete! Shiny things are ok in small doses!
How did you get hold of a ZZ4 motor , its a good lump to have and about as good as a street / strip SBC 350 gets . If i remember right its 400hp with 400 plus torque and you should surprise some turbo charged thingys with that

Long story Pete, but I bought it as advertised 327 with edelbrock heads & inlet. Clive Lansdale (Probuild american) went and picked it up for me and he is checking it out now. He spotted it was a zz4 so just collected it knowing that'll do the job nicely! Not bad forpjs65 wrote:I couldn't say that i enjoyed the shiny thing but it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be .

La La La, fingers in ears, not listening. Anyway, my counsellor assures me that another couple of months and I'll be able to say the name of "those rims" without twitching like dreyfus in the Pink Panther films....
Goddammit, I've been off the forum in Germany for a week and the first thread I catch up on is littered with them......

Its i bit tough trying to resist buying rims as a nice set can really change how the car looks but its easy to give the old credit card a bashing . I been finding reasons to get some rota's for a while now and i've been looking at so many pictures that iam now sick of the sight of them , well for the moment anyway .Monster wrote:La La La, fingers in ears, not listening. In the meantime i have been trying to stuff as much brake as i can behind the old 15 inch AR's and have found a good combo for the front . Having had success with the 5 series BMW brakes on the back end i thought i would raid there parts list and get some disc's for the front . Iam using the LS1 Camaro calipers but the LS1 disc wouldn't fit so i found a 320mm off a 1990's 5 series that would work , its got more offset so i can get the caliper to fit the rims . 320mm is still too big but there is plenty of metal on the BMW disc for me to turn a bit off in a lathe , i worked out that 315mm would just fit but i played safe and turned it down to 310mm . As luck would have it the old lathe at work snapped its drive belt so i spent an afternoon trying to fix it ,its real old tech and i would guess that it was built in the 1940's but its not bad when it works . It took 2 hours just to turn the disc down because the new drive belt kept stretching and i had to stop and re tighten it but it all worked fine in the end .
here is the new disc with the old one , i think 310mm will work a lot better than the thinner 280mm chevy disc.

I used the old chevy caliper mount and cut it about and welded some tabs on so that i could bolt the LS1 caliper frame on , it took a couple of attempts to get the frame in the right place .

The LS1 caliper is quite long and there isn't a massive amount of room between the upper control arm and the steering arm which on this is mounted on the rear of the hub like the caliper . Its all a nice snug fit and enough space not to rub on anything , although i will have to use allen headed bolts instead of hex headed ones so they clear the steering arm .

It all mock's up nicely and importantly i can fit it all under the 15 inch rim without any rubbing . Pete

Nice fab skills mate
Looks a nice fit behind that alloy too.

Thanks Stu , i was a bit lucky with the braket really as one of the 2 mounting holes was spot on , so all i did was tighten that one up and move the frame to the right place and then mark where the 2nd hole needed to go . I was surprised how much difference being just 1mm out made to where the frame aligned with the disc , this stuff needed to be spot on . I will put a picture up of the before and after of the bracket when i have cleaned and painted it . Pete
