Um, what extra is needed to film/connect to an iPad?

Lee, you need a high spec computer for the editing side of things. A quad core or one of the Apple thunderbolt type machines.

The camera uses SDHC cards. To view on an Ipad - i guess you'd view the footage through the net i.e youtube etc. Modern smart tv's do read the format so you can watch by sticking the card in your tv.

Not strictly true young Benjamin, you just need the camera kit for an ipad as it comes with an SD card slot. I've viewed footage from it on the ipad just fine. Not sure I've tried it in the 1080p hd mode though as the ipad I have isnt a retina. Should still play fine though though and let you do basic editting like length etc. Plus with imovie you can string together bits of footage but limited to the space on your ipad.
