Have a look on here for the correct part number for the belt:

Pulleys are the identical if I remember correctly.

Reading your first post.....

If you are suffering from huge amounts of incurable understeer in a relatively standard car (eg no/minimal ride height adjustment or damping adjustment) take a quick look at your tyre pressures.

See how much the fronts have built up (will probably be circa 6-8psi with road tyres for a typical 15 min session) and reset them to a sensible level (PM me if you would like a starting point.).

Also check the rears and considering increasing your starting pressures to decrease the differential in heat/pressure build up as the session progresses.

Another "freebie" adjustment you can make with a standard(ish) car is to add some negative camber to the front. Remember the camber change will also change the toe angle so this will need to be reset at the same time.

Thanks for the reply.
The majority of the under steer was due to the cheap tyres. I did experiment with tyre pressures but not much difference was noticed. I have bought some 16" beetle wheels which need some suitable rubber before the next outing.
The other thing I noticed was the engine was moving about due to worn mounts. I will be carrying out the hockey puck mod on the rear to stiffen that up.

strut braces?

Post by jazzymonkey »

Quick update and a quick question.
all the interior is now stripped out with just the dash and heater matrix to go.
I'm gonna splash out on updated arb' s, any recommendations?
The next step I will be taking is chassis stiffening, I'm not going the cage route and was wondering about strut braces. There seems quite a few options, upper and lower for the front and rear. Which ones or which combinations work best?

They are prone to understeer so I would go stiffer on the back or just fit the back. Eibach's are pretty good value for money, Neuspeed are about the thickest but mega money........if Ultra racing do them then they are normally superb in terms of cost.

Upper front and both for the back would be ideal. If funds are tight (or you can't be arsed :) ) I would go for just the rear in a decent size.

Had a productive weekend stripping the rest of the interior out. The dash is now removed and I have made a start sorting out the wiring :-( getting rid of everything I don't need.
I understand I have to leave the ugly crossmember in for strength etc or is there a way of removing it but not going down the roll cage route.
The other question is how to mount the clock pod?
