model railway
I had 12 years working on the Railways S&T department.......had some great times and met some great people also some very odd people.......work was varied and very physical but also rewarding !Tk wrote:Some of them pics look really good.
I'm going to work on the railway in a couple of weeks
Assuming I pass my medical on Tuesday
Every time I go out on the train from Norwich I pass all the signal posts and gantries we put up 25 years or more ago.....
Bloody hell thats scarey......I was working on the railways before the electrification between Norwich and ipswich was complete....
And before any of you cheeky buggers say it......no it wasn't the days of steam then...
Great model railway project your doing there......
bit more of a update with some work ive been doing.
been working on building my footbridge going ove the platforms.
started off cutting up some pieces of wood, 1" by 10mm this took most the time.
then i over lapped them and glued them to a flat piece of wood

then made a template for the side panels of the steps and marked out

i clamped it all together and done a test fit

once i was happy i sprayed the steps black and wrapped the side panels
with brick effect sheets of paper.
before i glued the side panels on i got some wire and made up some
hand rails, took a while with trial and error but im happy with the out come
the finished article,

i still have another 3 to build tfor the other platforms

another thing i have been working on.
bought some 1.8mm LED's off ebay for my engines.
was a bit aprihensive about doing it but i like a challange.
these are the LED's with resistors that i bought

got 2 together and bent the wires together so that the lights would be
inline with were they need to sit.
afterwords i soldered 2 1K Ohm resistors to each end.

after the fidly job above was time to test that lights work
so plugged up a controller and fingers crossed connected the wires up

now it was time to remove the plastic lens and drill out he holes for the LED's

then glued the LED's in place underneath the cabin, glued in place and tested
the lights were still working.

the glue is still drying at the moment but the class 90 will be put back together
later on tonight and tested on my layout.

john B wrote:Thats the one ! Class 47 to London and DMU's accross country.....and if I remember right there was a class 44 ?
Seems like a lifetime ago now though...
could been a class 44 or 45 as they looked the same.
those trains were british made and looked great
its a shame we have italian, french and american trains now.
i blame the guverment for the demise of our rail industry, have loads
of examples but it will just annoy me listing them:sifone:
I do remember years ago I was working at March and they had a load of loco's they were dismantling....just getting to walk through the engine compartments it was truely awesome the size of componenets rocker gear and camshafts etc were massiveBart wrote:could been a class 44 or 45 as they looked the same.

when british rail was broken up thats when all the problems started
the guverment didnt want to invest any money into it.
but they kept hold of the intercity group on the east and west cost
and they cocked that up.
the biggest mistake BR ever made was to not complete the advanced passenger train project (APT) as that was the first tilting train in the world
all that was needed was to take a few degrees out the tilting system and it would been fine but instead the japanies and italians build them now.
Layout moving to the left
due to reasons outside my brothers control I have had to dismantle my layout
in the front bedroom so he can move into mine until he can get back on his feet.
I was a bit upset by taking it apart but family comes first before anything else in my eyes.
even though I new the layout was going in the loft at some point I really never
got round to boarding it out so this has given me a kick up the backside.
after speaking to TK a while back about boarding the loft he gave the incuragement
that I could board it.
so last weekend boarded out the loft.

I made a box section to go over the pipes from the water tank up into the over flow tank.

over the weekend while at work I got some carpet that's not been used for
a while, 2m x 4.5m and layed it down.

I think im going to need to build a cover for this as I know at some point
I WILL fall down there:D

the other advantage about being in the loft is that the miss's is afraid
of hights so I have some were to go and she carnt get to me:seeya:
this build is going to be 4.5m x 4m so lots of room to play with wahoo.
