On a side note, is it common practice to opt for a slightly narrower tyre when using slicks? I was looking at potentially running 275 rears for wets. These are the two sizes that Pirelli offer for their slicks in 17's and are obviously a tad narrower:

<DT>17''</DT>225/625-17

245/620-17

I didn't catch what width slicks you were running on your GTR mate

not to my (limited) knowledge although I'm sure ther;s plenty of people on here who do know. Same rule applies, biggest footprint you can get for dry, less for wet. err, so long since I looked i cant remember, must be on this thread, but i'll have a look next time i'm in the garage for ya

Ok so less width in the wet wider in the dry, makes sense

edit: so on that basis 9.5" rims all round may be suitable for wets with something like a 235/245 tyre

Good spot Ben. I do like those and if they're done right they look good. Although my current arch thinking is jsut to get them repaired as they are and go for the stock look.

GTR continues it's habit of breaking itself while sitting in the garage! It's now split a hose, I think one of the small ones behind the head and pissing all it's water out when it gets hot???? basically it's ok but no heater and before long no coolant - oops. So need to fix that now as want to finally get the arches done so it needs to be a runner for the body shop.

Have you got a spare hose chief, if not I'm sure I've got some rubber/silicon that you could adapt if you need a temporary fix

so I threw the GTR at Daz to look at the water leak and fortunately it was just a brittle end of the hose so that's sorted.

More pressing now is what I do about my foldy up bonnet. I was considering venting it but I don't think this will help as it's the lip and leading edge that lifts. I reckon it's the air going up that doesn't go throught the i/c and rad, combined with the fact that the bonnet pins are too far back. So options other than venting are to put the stock catch back on which would soon piss me off at the track I reckon, considering how much you open the bonnet, or to put another bonnet pin or 2 further forward, which will not only look shite (4 bonnet pins?) but be as much of a faff as going inside the car to pull the release... hmmm

Would an after market bonnet be better? .. ie. a carbon jobbie?
