[quote="jap.slapper"]I've just had a quick flick back through your GTR build thread mate, now I was thinking about drilling some holes (I don't think that I need to do any more with the front bumper) but possibly the rear could benefit from similar holes being drilled in the rear bumper to try to eliminate some of the drag effect.

Would there be any point in doing this chief?

/QUOTE]

Missed this. I did it for cooling reasons at the front, and weight - poss a bit much as the bumper cracked as soon as the engine hoist kissed it!!

I know it's a popular mod on rear bumpers for the reason you state, especially from what I recall on the scoobs - daz tried expanding foam in his then smoothing it which was an alternative, although i think he ended up putting in more than he thought he'd need and then thought he'd added unneccessary weight!

Cant remember how the zed is around the rear but I had that wide arch kit and rear bumper with the venuri. Prob makes sense if you can see an are that would benefit though.

Sounds like you've got the right idea on this one chief. You've got a great spec car there already and learning it as is, getting it set up how you want it, and then working out where to put your money and effort is definately the best approach.

That should be very quick regardless of a power deficit, and we've already had that conversation haven't we....

But, and I'll bang on again, learn from my mistakes and really control those underbonnet temps!! Your bonnet should help but on a high power zed thats caned on track, my money would go on top quality heat sheilding and wrap on everything possible....

You've just made up my mind on what the mrs is buying me this Christmas, she keeps asking and I keep telling her that I don't need anything...well some heat wrap sleeves to protect the loom etc would be useful, good thinking!

On a side note, I've just been tweeking the drivers seating position as it does sit very low (it's mounted on fixed Sparco side rails). It's comfortable and good for me, but is slightly offset to the right from centre but there's no scope for moving it across to the left any further. I'm happy with it but has just got me thinking about other things that need addressing.

I've never really noticed it before but there is quite a bit less room up front in a SWB than a LWB zed and the front part of the cage is going to be tight, still doable but bloody tight.

Under bonnet cooling and loom protection aside I'm going to focus my efforts over Christmas on making it as safe as possible because I will innevitably come off at some stage so need to make sure that all cut offs, extinguishers and the rest of the cage is all squared away before venturing out

cheers for the input guys

Never knew that there'd be less room up front in a SWB rather than an LWB; how does that work?

I always figured that they were the same but I'm 99% certain that it's more cramped in my SWB than it was in my LWB

The stock seats have been replaced by a pair of much smaller Sparco's but it just feels very tight in comparison

Maybe the lack of rear footwell plays a part?

I hope for your sake there isn't less room up front chief cos mine was very tight. Front bar of the cage wasn't a prob is was the side ones, my lid was always on it so always had my head on a tilt. I've got a feeling, and my memory is shite, that I had the transmission tunnel cut on mine so the seat could be moved over.

Stu you might remember that, was it done up at Bladeys or am i making it up?

The side bars are going to be a very tight fit mate, I know that much already so it'll take a bit of jiggery pokery and double checking when they're being welded in

the front bars are going to also be tight, there isn't much room down by the pedals

typically no difinitive answer from bubbles and co.

Not sure of it's helpful to you, but I had to modify the floor of the E36 to suit. The drivers seat was quite offset compared to the pedals and steering wheel, so an answer was to cut out some material from the transmission tunnel and moving the seat position towards the centre line of the car by about 45mm. This improved the alignment between feet, arse and hands and liberated more space from the weld in cage too

I competed in MSA sprints with the car and it was deemed suitable for an MSA logbook so it must have been OK by them.
