FD3S Single Turbo Build(Kinda)
Cheers for the link Stu I will give them a buzz.
People rate drains and feeds like '-4AN', how can I work out what mine is?
Thanks Gareth, I have asked him on FDUK. I think a company called magnum power has taken over the product line, I am waiting for someone in the states to get back to me as they might be able to get me a rebuild kit as they are the same specs apparently... Reading on FDUK people have said the turbos have restrictors built in so there is no point in me looking at that. Its rebuild or bust. I think the whole problem has been caused by the oil drain being too small so thats something I need to look at. I had just got it running sweet as well.....RX7 wrote:I believe EDRX7 on the forums used to be a Masterpower turbo supplier mate. He might be able to help. What size is the oil feed lines ?

Small update, I got the car undersealed by Stu at the end of last week.
I can throughly recommend his services, he was more than happy to following all the startup and shutdown the procedures which I asked him to follow on the Rex. Kept me in the loop throughout the whole process and took alot of pictures along the way.
Anyway... here are some pictures

Turbo wise I have got something in the pipeline but I wanna keep it surprise! At home we now have got the shed up so I am going to be moving stuff over into it this week from the garage. After that I need to take down a stud wall.... then finally after alot of messing about...taking down a wall in the garden...taking down three conifer trees ... I will have the Rex's new home. Hurrah!
I am gonna put the rex in there over the winter and just clean the engine bay abit and sort out a few little loose ends.

Thanks for the recommendation Dom, and I'm glad you were pleased with the work
Rex's do warrant the special TLC of garages, and with yours being an early FD all the more so. If the 'bit of engine bay cleaning' means improving the paint, plastic or alloy give me a shout and I'll be happy to talk you through what I'd do and how I'd do it

Small update today, I thought I would have one last roll of the dice in regards to the turbo leaking.
Firstly let me say, the car has always smoked even when it had the original turbo oil feed line. I just put it down to the car running two stroke oil in the fuel. I had to replace the existing line as one of the elbows on it was leaking some time ago. When I replaced the line I got one which was slightly wider which would flow more, thinking this would be better as the turbo has a journal bearing. Recently the car has started smoking loads and oil has been weeping out from the turbo itself, my thoughts were the turbo had gone bang and it was time to sell a kidney.
Me being me, I was a dog with a bone trying to find out why the turbo was leaking by trawling though forums. My thoughts were to try and learn what went wrong so I dont make the same mistake again with my new turbo kit - which I cant afford. I carried on with the theory that the oil pressure was too high in the turbo thats why the oil is being dumped rather than the seals being goosed.
After some reading - which was mainly to understand what sizes I should be running and ignoring what the car came with. Also getting to grips with how lines are measured ie 4AN, 10AN etc etc. I knew what I should be running with. After ringing up the guys at Pirtek (who have been very helpful I might add and I cannot recommend them enough), I asked them to look over my order history to find out what size the replacement line I got made up was.
The replacement line was 6AN, cock! I thought thats too big for a feed line with a 10AN drain after all the research I had done recently, it needed to 4AN really. 6AN coupled with the 13B's high oil pressure was the most likely cause of the leak and the smoke.
So I thought well sod it, 35 quid punt to get a smaller line made up and try that. I convinced myself the new line would not fix the issue and the damage had been done. I got one made up this morning by Pirtek, fitted it. Straight away when I started the car... No smoke at all....I tried to not get excited as I thought...well normally the car smokes the most one you hit boost then come to a junction and let the car idle. Anyways so far so good. I thought well, there is only one way to hit boost - take it out for a rag! So off I went, all the time watching my wing mirror watching for smoke. I was out for an hour and gave it a good kicking and there was no smoke at all. I am fu*king chuffed to say the least, I convinced myself that this was 35 quid wasted and I was looking at a new turbo setup. I think tomorrow I will fit my replacement splitter and give it a wax to celebrate.
Sorry for the long waffle, just thought I would share!

Great news mate! Whoever knew that something so simple could sort that out? Nice research and I hope this gives you the incentive to get cracking on the car
Get the wax out
That car will look immense if it's done well.
