What is the 'better' Impreza model to go for?
That white one above is visually like Gerry's old one, and that thing remains the hardest launching car I've been in BAR NONE!
Sounds like a nightmare trackday Monster......two dead cars in one day?! Wtf

The blue wagon was one of Andy Stevens' test wagons I seem to recall.

Ah yes, of course it was. Stan's old wagon, a UK98 tuned to 400bhp more than a decade ago when it was tricky and expensive to do that. I nearly bought it, someone else did and then a couple of years later sold it to Andy S.Stuart wrote:The blue wagon was one of Andy Stevens' test wagons I seem to recall.
I loved my My99 - even in girly uk spec it was quick - however I did take a P1 out and that was blisteringly quick - when I got back into mine it felt like slooooow.
Only comment I have is poor interior build quality on the earlier cars - i.e. if you look at the doors cards funny they scratch and tear ! ... I'm mega careful and still managed to hang nail the drivers door card.

Thanks again guys
Russ, what you've said really has been of help mate. Thanks a bunch, and no doubt I'll be in touch in 2013 to ask a bit more about wagons.
A couple of things that I picked up on is the fueling and the bottom end going. Does this occur with a 'standard' Impreza? And back to fueling making the engine pop, was that down to tweeking the boost or is it literally what grade of fuel it has to be run on? Also what is this det meter thing I've heard about?

Dan wants a 'Classic' shape mate, not one of the later ones. Tbh I prefer the look of the later Wagons too. I still like a later Blob or bugeye WRX wagon with Prodrive pack and think that would be pretty goodBen wrote:I'd say go for a blob eye .. better interior than a MK99.

Dan, checkout this link its quite helpful. I'd have thought even standard ones let go though because all the components are going to be over 10 years old now.Dan wrote: A couple of things that I picked up on is the fueling and the bottom end going. The classic STi is mapped close to the edge, less so the WRX I think. Problems possible at standard boost, but tweaking it makes it more probable.Daniel wrote: A couple of things that I picked up on is the fueling and the bottom end going. The det-alarm or knocklink are good for telling you the engine just blew up
