Charity Race Experience Sun Nov 18th Snett
Aside from starting on this weeks ago, things really started to gather pace for me on Thursday. Lots of phone calls, emails, every kind of electronic message known to man and even a couple of 'actual' conversations culminated in a large dedicated stand on the infield as opposed to the field like the other clubs; this isn't me showboating but for those that didn't come, the difference between where we ended up compared to where we could have been was immense! Yesterday I left the house after farm duties and met up with a couple of the organisers, John B and Steve and eventually Eddy too. Stand space was allocated and secured, stickers were kind of sorted out and then the worrying began! (Would everyone/anyone turn up, would our stand get hoodwinked by overnighters, would I get either of the cars started etc etc)
I left the house this morning at 6.30am and arrived at an icey circuit for before 6.45am. Apart from an abandoned Metro, locked and parked in the worst possible place (thanks Eddy
) the area was ready for us to fill with a broad range of mechanical beauty. I sent Eddy a message about shifting his car and got a phone call at 7.20 to say that we could move it (even though it was locked and had the handbrake on). At this time, there was Dan Harle, Danny Hunt, Tony Nos, Rob Callowe and Lord Connor and I all looking at the frozen Metro and wondering about just tipping it onto it's roof and throwing it over the barrier!! We decided on pushing it out of the way as BigFil and the majestic Team Extreme Racing crew would need every scrap of space to get the ex-F1 race rig in and manoeuvred around (It is 60ft front to back
) In Fil and his guests rocked up in a selection of vehicles that reads pretty much like my lottery shopping list. It was perverse. For those that didn't get there, check this out;
So with that little lot being shuffled back and forth whilst I had a bit of a sense of humour failure with layout suggestions
Please forgive me if anyone got glared at!
Anyway, thankfully everyone was pretty chilled out about the organised chaos of first thing and pretty much everyone was in and sorted by the 8.30 cut off! (Thanks guys)
So, we had Japanese muscle cars, American monsters, British classics and German bombers...........a great mix and genuinely superb standard of cars. We even had the comedy element; Dan's Pajero was present in it's 50/50 glory of thick mud and blinging white and chrome everywhere
With space for one or two late arrivals (there is always at least one) we were all in and secure and my biggest fear of the day was over. The weather was great, the crowds were building and the fun factor was superb. Logan and Gary looked to be going very well indeed based on feedback from people who were watching the track stuff, and Tony was having a laugh and enjoying his first track outing in the Impreza.
Kevin Foley, one of the organisers, repeatedly came on to the stand to check everything was cool and he looked chuffed with the stand and our selection and standard of cars
We had occasional quite spells but it only took Fil to fire up his Mustang and people would either have a cardiac or just go "Wow" but they all jumped out of their skins! Max1's Camaro was normally fired up just after Fil's was switched off, and the noise of that at tickover was almost subtle.....until he blipped it and the mother of all superchargers whipped up
Insane.
Highlights for me?

- A classic Mini packed with 310hp
- A 9.8 litre drag Mustang that is totally road legal and runs a parachute
- 2 V8 BMW 3 series one being an E92 M3 and one being a custom built E36
- A rather splended H2 Hummer
- A truly 'perfect' mk1 Escort
- A crazy orange drag RX7
- Max1's sensational 67 supercharged Camaro
- A superb R32 GTR Skyline

Highlights for me?
- Team Extreme, it does go without saying really
- The support from the guys that attended
- The quality and variety of cars 'you' brought along
- The endless people I heard going 'wow' at the various cars on our stand
- Trev's face when he rocked up with his new RA
- The feeling of pride, once again, in the club

What a day! I rocked up at 7am and drove straight past the club stand, giving a royal wave to Stu, with a list of things to do before driver briefing. Headed to the Race car support area to stow wheels to get me home, and tools for eventualities, and found Logan. Cold was not the word and Logan's Evo agreed. Thanks again Gary for the use of your truck for storage!
I had a wonder over to the club stand following briefing and signing laps as I had 20 mins to the first session on the 100 track. Did a quick tour of the stand with Stu and I must say it was immense, with a mix and quality of cars to justify the premier position that Stu secured.
I emptied a tank of fuel in the morning session, and popped out at lunch interval to refill, pulling up on the club stand on the way back for 45mins before the afternoon session. It was great to meet up with Stu, Ben, BigFil again as it has been far too long.
PM session was great as things had warmed up and the track dried out. I pretty much ran passenger lap after passenger lap until 3:30 when the queue died down and I was once again low on fuel! Now it was Tony time (Not worried about being kicked off if I span out) but unfortunately the only thing to spin out after a couple off lairy laps was a rear brake pad lining!
Chris, I managed to say 'Nice Rex' to you only, not putting 1+1 together sorry. Your motor was going really well! with lots of fire out the back into corners
I did 110 track miles today! and boy does my neck know it.
Sorry to the many of you I did not get to meet/chat with. It was a cracking day all in all.

Ha ha :-)john B wrote:Those drag cars were awesome I nearly pooped myself when that mustang started up
It was worth going just to watch people jump when I started her up
If it makes you feel any better you weren't the only one who was caught out, there were a selection of people jumping, side stepping and one woman who ran away!!

Driving a fast Jap import is like coming out of the closet, you might surprise some people, but in the end you are still gay.

What a brilliant day!
My crew had a fantastic day. I know everyone has already said it but thank you stu for your efforts!:hurray:
Showing no bias... I think our stand realy stood out from the rest with obviously a huge part of it going to and with much respect to bigfil and the team extreme.- Those drag cars were/are stunning.
Not to mention show stopping loud!
A couple of the highlights of the day for me were, First thing was watching garys evo getting sound checked. The poor guy walked round the back holding the stick meter as he had done to every other car...a short pause, a look down...then you saw him realise no exhaust!....A couple of paces round the passenger side...."shit no exhaust here either!" you could see him think..We fell about as he looked round to see if anybody was watching as he saved face with having to ask were it was and gave up! Then it was the family who walked upto dans car from the dirty side completly stumped on how just a few mins before hand they seen it clean and shinny walking past, Yet there is was filthy and it hadn`t moved?? I`m not entirely sure if they ever sussed it out!
Lastly it was my lad getting to sit in his dream gulf 917. This has been going on for a year as the very kind guy (i still don`t know his name) was there last year with it and gave riley a poster of it. This has now been on his wall for a year and anything in gulf racing colours are his ultimate. So when the same car and guy was there today and offered riley more gulf goodies and a sit in "the" car, He nearly popped!
I would have loved, And had planned on getting a pax lap with logan in the mightly evo, But as i`m now only just starting to get back on my feet after a crap year i just couldn`t afford it.
As always it was great to catch up with so many people and have a bloody good natter. We need more meets as the day just wasn`t long enough.
Finaly it was great to see trev back in turbo power...Bring on 2013, and let the battle re-commence!:boxing_smiley::D

Thanks for the mention Stu. Sorry again. Lucky i did not leave the Pulsar there last night. You would not have moved that!
Brilliant stand. Well done. Hope we can get the club up to what it was a couple of years ago.
