Pulsar brakes

Post by Fast Eddy »

Well, as some of you know the Pulsar is finished for now, built as a fast road/show occasional track car.

The front brakes are upgraded from the terrible Sunny Gti spec tiny discs to a big disc kit with uprated pads. Very good on the road and fine on track with no fade even when pushing hard.

I was on track on my dealer day, chasing a Seat Supercopa that turned out to be one of the front runners in the MSV trackday trophy. It was a quick car, but i had a little to spare on the straights plus could outbrake on the bends, but they just got too hot as the fronts were doing most of the work.

This happened

On removal, it was even more serious. I had cracked both sides and both layers of the discs.

Must have been some serious heat in there.

No one can say i don't try lol.

New discs and better pads going on all round.

They were good quality discs Gary, just not big enough as i only have 15" wheels. They are the Advans i had on my black Pulsar all those years ago and i am attached to them, Plus Pulsars like 15's for handling/lightweightness. I explained why they failed. Car not built as a track car originally.

you'd prob be better off with no grooves in them

i know what you mean with 15" remember evos run them in forest stages and im sure with lots of left foot braking the see more heat.

we did use a k sport kit with success in end as heat from brakes used to melt grease in wheel bearings

so what make were them discs?

older grpN Subarus were always stuck with small disc and 15" wheels and never had any issues with good quality discs and the correct selection of pad material...........

why do they have so many drill holes in them???

Slightly off topic, Alyn. What Pagid pads would you recommmend for Sprinting? Looking on their website the RS15's look good?

Back on topic. I used to always use good quality pattern discs on my old Evo and had them almost on fire at Cadwell trackday. So maybe worth doing that?
