Love the colour of the Golf, sits lovely on those wheels too.
Mine is Stu's old one, so Cupra R suspension, grooved brakes, poly dog bone, smoothed and drilled air box. Nothing major, but assuming it lasts I'll do bits as and when....

Thanks fella.

Sounds like you have got a really good base to start with. If you're gonna get the car mapped make sure you're not running the stock dump valve as they are plastic and dont handle the extra boost very well. Also if you can, decat/sports cat the car I found it made a huuuuge difference to mine in terms of spool up. Also I changed the N75 valve on mine as well which worked a charm. Just my 2p tho, all depends on what you plan to do with the car :)

If I can keep it long term, then it will get a new exhaust which might mean a decat. As for the N75 and new diverter valve, they are on the list of things to get, but if I get a promotion in the near future, having some money to do things should be a little easier. (Fingers crossed on all fronts)

Third time lucky!

The very accommodating Steve of Eco Remaps saw me again tonight after he had finished work, and he and the file writer had gotten to the bottom of the issues. Three companies had my car listed as having a certain model of Bosch ECU which caused all sorts of confusion reading it. One the ECU was properly identified, the Map went it in about 10-20 minutes all done. :)
There was a brief "will it, won't it" moment before turning the ignition key, but it purred into life, and was smooth from the off. It's got a really progressive delivery, spools up earlier, and is pretty mental in first and second, with plenty of grunt in third and fourth. I've only done about fifteen miles since, but they were fast and enjoyable, so no grumbles so far! Looking forward to a longer drive tomorrow :)

Right, done 100 miles since the map and I'm passed to say for a small engine, small turbo package, it goes much much better. Using the android app Torque, I measured the maf as peaking around 145-150 g/s before the map, and now hits 175. I've been told a way of estimating horsepower from this reading is is to divide it by 0.8 . That's taken with a pinch of salt as other factors would affect it obviously, but it means a useful and noticeable increase. I have nt calibrated the weight of the car yet, so can't approximate hp or torque as the app uses weight, gps speed and acceleration to calculate these figures. I can say though, third gear now pulls like second did, and fourth like third. It's not "blow the doors off" quick, but added to the smooth linear delivery, makes for a nicer faster car. Best 170 quid I've spent in a while!

I've been thinking of less weight, FMIC, exhaust, decat, and another MAP. I'd forgotten how addictive snail based tuning is :)
I'll run it as it is for now, but can only imagine what one is like properly sorted with more power and less weight. LCR's are still too much money compared to the Cupra's, the money in difference would make a hell of a parts list!

Cupra's are (and were) ridiculous value for money. Consider the spec, the build quality and the way that they 'go' for a hatch back. A decent chassis, six-speed box, big brakes, tunable 20vT VAG block and such a great platform.

Glad your patience has worked out for you. If it helps, 100kgs can come out and go back in, in less than half an hour ;)
