Not sure if it's the simplicity/honesty of the car or the memories it brings back from cutting my teeth on similar machinery 20+ years ago?, but either or, I loved every minute of it. Just properly awesome :D

One thing I noticed as a passenger today is that people (young or old) really seem to appreciate it, and it seems to evoke memories in many. People just simply smile when they see the thing :)
That made me smile :) I could relate to the honesty of an older car (having had a few) They just seem to cut through a lot of the meaningless shit (0-60 times, grip limits etc) and just put a smile on your face

I remember a phone call from you at about this time Rob, and you had just come back from a 'road test' :D I can't comment on how the lightweight flywheel drives, but judging from Rob's hysteria Jon, I would buy one if you can. Even if it's your brother's car

As mentioned the brakes on Capris aren't that good but Caprisport do a good range of upgrades and also they give enough information to put together a setup yourself although their kits aren't that pricey anyway . The other thing is that their kits are designed for Capris so you know they will work properly , i intend to use the Cossie/Mondeo setup on my Prefect as i have fitted Capri front struts. Pete

Thanks for the link Pete, but I ordered EBC slotted rotors and Greenstuff pads for little money yesterday. I think the idea is to keep the car as OE as possible and tbh it's never going to be used in anger.

if that was your plan i would have personally ordered a set of dealer pads or good quality OEM type rather then Gr%%stuffs............

After a being asked to test some Bluestuff pads for EBC i'd never use them again on my Subaru (PF FTW) but we're talking horses for courses and it's very unlikely that the Capri will see anything more than gentle braking at best & I think it's fair to say that they'll perform better than OE without upping the wheel/disc & caliper size.
For what it's worth, I was chatting to an ex Zen Performance tech today and he also rates EBC at zero for hard race applications!

seems to sound similiar to what i said on the phone...........

still wouldn't use them full stop and stand by what i said above, good quality OEM will work and last better than your choice..........

Soo...

We fitted the slotted rotors & Greenstuff pads today and...

Bloody hell, what a difference that has made!!! After bedding in the new brakes I could tell how much better they were as my bro was grinning like a loon upon deceleration. The OE brakes are dangerous at best, but now it stops on a dime :p

After...

Next weekend we'll be changing the cam cover gaskets as they're leaking quite a bit & after that stripping the LSD & after that etc etc etc. I've a feeling that the fettling will never end, but as my bro has now become a full on petrolhead and a Ford convert it seems only fair to help him on his quest for V6 perfection  :D

PS

On a side note, I brought this old shitter out of the garage today and depending on what happens next Friday...

It may or may not live again! Fingers crossed

the brakes on all old fords are quite bad really, them brake discs look
the nuts ill be getting the same ones start of next year for mt sierra.

the car looks really nice indeed.

little tip for the rocker cover bolts, work your way fron the inside out like
you would torqing a head, get the bolts hand tight then 1/2 turn them tight
this will allow the gasket to seat nicly after a couple trips out give them
another 1/4 turn for a good seal.

The Impreza's still looking tough Jon  Nice to hear that the Capri work is easy enough so far. Nothing scarier than shitty brakes on a car, so any significant improvements has got to be good.
